Press Secretary Jen Psaki slammed for 'disgraceful' Space Force comments, Republicans demand immediate apology
The United States Space Force was cemented as the sixth branch of the armed forces when former President Donald Trump signed the 2020 National Defense Authorization Act. Except, the new administration received a bit of flak after White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki's remarks on Space Force. When one of the reporters asked a question about what would President Joe Biden's plans be for the immediate future for it, Psaki grinned saying: "Wow, Space Force! It’s the plane of today! I am happy to check with our Space Force point of contact. I’m not sure who that is. I will find out."
This irked the lawmakers from the Republican camp as they slammed Psaki, saying her comment was disgraceful. Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Ala.) demanded Psaki should immediately apologize. "It’s concerning to see the Biden administration’s press secretary blatantly diminish an entire branch of our military as the punchline of a joke, which I’m sure China would find funny,” Rogers said, according to Trending politics.
"The Space Force was passed with near-unanimous support in Congress, the same type of ‘unity’ President Biden is supposedly working towards,” he added. “Jen Psaki needs to immediately apologize to the men and women of the Space Force for this disgraceful comment."

It wasn't just Rogers. Michael Waltz (R-Fla.) followed suit in lambasting Psaki’s comments on the Space Force. "This is just another example of the Biden administration not taking China seriously while demeaning the incredible work of Space Force personnel," Waltz stated.
Freshman Congresswoman Lauren Boebert (R-CO) voiced her opinion in on Psaki’s comments, saying "The Space Force is an official branch of our armed services and the Biden administration goes out and openly mocks it on television for all to see? The level of disrespect they have for those who serve is disgraceful."
Soon after, Psaki issued an apology on Twitter: We look forward to the continuing work of Space Force and invite the members of the team to come to visit us in the briefing room anytime to share an update on their important work.” Mixed opinions by netizens soon followed in response to Psaki's tweet. "It's a waste of money, it's redundant. It takes away what the Air Force was doing. And the Navy. Our tax dollars are being thrown away on this," read one of the replies.
This was seconded by another who tweeted: "What exactly is the “Space Force”? Most of us really never got a proper explanation of what their purpose is. What they do. Or even if they are an actual “force”. What do they do? What are their responsibilities? After they military? Civilian? Are they connected with NASA?"
"I’m just as surprised to be saying this as anyone but I actually think the space force makes sense. Has nothing to do with fighting aliens. I have never voted republican and I despise trump but the space force was not as crazy an idea as people make it sound," one of the tweets read.
