CHICAGO, ILLINOIS: On December 26, a Chicago lady named Jeanette Olivo viciously mauled Bebe, a 12-year-old Chihuahua, when the dog was out for a walk with a 15-year-old girl in the northwest Chicago neighborhood of Dunning. Olivo and the girl exchanged a few words during the afternoon until the 61-year-old woman started to chase the little girl.

Olivo repeatedly stabbed the dog while pursuing the teenager as she tried to flee, according to police as reported by the Daily Mail. The outlet reported that although the dog survived the horrifying attack, it had many knife wounds, including one that may have damaged the thorax. Olivo was arrested and charged with aggravated animal cruelty and aggravated assault with a dangerous weapon. She is anticipated to show up in court on January 4 at 9 am.

Following the brutal attack, the Chicago-based Garrido Stray Rescue Foundation posted on Facebook that Bebe had recovered from surgery for a wound that had damaged the dog's diaphragm. The next day, they issued a report on Bebe's progress, saying that while he was "still not out of the woods," he was "in good spirits and doesn't seem to be in any pain."

A representative of The Garrido Stray Rescue Foundation claimed that they were informed of the heinous crime by a police officer from the District 16. The rescue foundation stated, "Initially, the thought was to help the family pay the bill down with a generous matching $2,000 donation from our anonymous donor (thank you) which was half matched immediately by Penny Petersen."

The rescue foundation added, "Premier Veterinary Group of Chicago helped by reducing our bill, as well - thank you caring people. Another rescue stepped us as well and we are touched." The foundation expressed gratitude for all the supportive remarks, prayers, and kind donations that helped cover Bebe's medical costs.

They even thanked the surgeon who carried out the life-saving surgery and also mentioned other organizations that stepped forward to assist, including Small Paws Rescue. A post by the rescue foundation read, "We raised enough to cover Bebe's follow up visit and help other voiceless victims of animal abuse."

"We did it together," the statement added. "We saved Bebe! At the end, one person committed an unforgettable crime, but you all stepped up to help - incredibly amazing and heartwarming, turning this horrific experience to something positive," the foundation added. The teenage girl, who is kept anonymous because she is a minor, claimed that the incident devastated her. "Bebe, he is happy to be home and is recovering surrounded by his loving family," the statement by the foundation read.
