MIAMI, FLORIDA: A 17-year-old boy has been arrested in Miami for allegedly using social media to traffic a 14-year-old girl for sex. Officials recently announced that Javier Quintero was selling a girl over social media after she ran away from her home several weeks earlier, according to the State Attorney's Office in Miami-Dade County.

State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle, Miami Springs Police Chief Armando Guzman, Miami Beac Police Chief Richard Clements and City of Miami Police Chief Jorge Colina announced the successful rescue of the 14-year-old girl. "This situation is every parent's worst nightmare," Katherine said in a press release on Thursday, August 13.

"That is why the work of our Human Trafficking Task Force is so important. Children like this, our children, can be lost so easily. But I and our law enforcement partners are determined to keep that from happening. Our children's futures are just too valuable," she added in the statement.

Late in the evening of Tuesday, August 11, Miami Springs police officers were called to the Runway Inn Miami Airport Hotel by a family member of a missing 14-year-old girl who had previously run away from home after a family dispute. The release stated: "The relative told police that they believed the girl was inside a hotel room and was being sold for sex on social media platforms by a 17-year-old male. The family member also directed officers to a specific Instagram account."

A police officer contacted the Miami-Dade State Attorney Office Human Trafficking Task Force and a Human Trafficking investigation commenced. Officials said that Quintero allegedly had his own relationship with the girl and told her she could make " $250 an hour for performing sexual acts with men in exchange for money". The release also stated that the victim noted that she endured upto five "dates" each day.

She also told officials that Quintero knew she was a minor and that he was in charge of setting up all sexual contacts with Johns while referring to them as "dates". She also revealed that he used to instruct her about how to act and handle specific sexual transactions. She was also instructed to hand over all the money to Quintero right after.

The release stated: "Quintero allegedly provided the hotel room, transportation, drugs, alcohol, and social media platforms for the operation. The victim also alleged that Quintero provided her with a variety of drugs including molly (mdma), cocaine, marijuana, Percocet, dxm (triple cs) and others."

Quintero was located, arrested and transported to the Juvenile Assessment Center. After the arrest, he told investigators he believed the girl was 17, according to The Herald. The outlet reported that police discovered videos and photographs that were sexual in nature, including one showing him allegedly fondling the girl's chest on Quintero's cellphone after they received consent to search it. The Herald also reported that police found a certain exchange between Quintero and someone from July 19 in which he mentioned that sex with the victim would cost $100 plus five Percocets.

Quintero was charged with five felonies: human trafficking of a victim under the age of 18, which carries a life sentence; deriving support from proceeds of prostitution; possession of materials displaying a sexual performance by a child; unlawful use of a communications device; and interference with custody. He was also charged with renting space to be used for prostitution and contributing to the delinquency of a child, according to Fox News.
