Jasper Wu: Three gang members arrested a year after 2-year-old boy in car was killed by stray bullet
ALAMEDA, CALIFORNIA: In connection to the murder of 23-month-old Jasper Wu 13 months ago, three gang members have been arrested bringing some closure to the Wu family. Two rival gang members exchanged gunfire on the Oakland Freeway on November 6, 2021, and one of the bullets from that exchange struck Wu in the head as he sat in the backseat of the car her mother drove, said Nancy O'Malley, the district attorney for Alameda County. Wu was pronounced dead at the nearby children's hospital.
Trevor Green, 22, of Richmond, Ivory Bivins, 24, of Vallejo, and Johnny Jackson, 28, of Richmond were named as the three suspects. Each has been accused of murder, firing at an occupied car, and having a handgun while a felon. According to O'Malley, Bivins and Green were also accused of criminal street gang conspiracy and conspiracy to commit a crime, reported CBS News.

"Ivory Bivins and Trevor Green belonged to the San Francisco-based street gang Chopper City. Their Infiniti G35 was dark in color," explained O'Malley. The shooters were aiming their weapons at a Nissan Altima driven by Johnny Jackson and Keison Lee, two criminal street gang members from the Eddy Rock neighborhood of San Francisco. O'Malley as per the report said Lee, the driver of the Altima, was shot and injured in the exchange. He was killed in an unrelated shooting last month, also attributed to gang violence. While being treated in San Francisco, Lee's hands were tested for gunpowder residue which turned out to be positive. He was interviewed by California Highway Patrol, who also recovered the Altima with bullet holes near the hospital, Lee admitted to being shot on the freeway.
The 23-month-old child was riding in a third, uninvolved passing car when he was struck by a stray bullet in the head, as per the news release by Alameda County District Attorney Nancy O’Malley. He was pronounced dead at a nearby children’s hospital. “This horrific tragedy is a parent’s worst nightmare: An innocent child struck by gunfire while riding in the car. Our community mourns with the Wu family. My office will work tirelessly to bring these culprits to justice for the Wu family and for our community,” Nancy shared as per the release. “The Wu family has suffered an unspeakable loss, and our hearts ache for them," said CHP Golden Gate Division Chief Ezery Beauchamp. The arrest brought some closure to the Wu family.
According to the victim's relatives, the mother was traveling from San Francisco to her house in Fremont that afternoon in a white Lexus automobile traveling in the southbound lanes of I-880. Three children were seated in the backseat of the car along with other relatives. At the news conference on Thursday, O'Malley stated that CHP investigators had been successful in finding eight shell casings on I-880 that are linked to the one that killed Wu. The DA's office said Green and Bivins were arrested on warrants for a separate incident in Contra Costa County in March. The two will be transferred to Alameda County to face charges. Jackson was arrested on Wednesday and was expected to be arraigned on Friday morning at the Wiley W Manuel Courthouse in Oakland.
