OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA: California parents whose son got murdered in his car seat during a gang crossfire are leaving the city for good. Jasper Wu, who was just one month away from turning two, was murdered by a stray gunshot while dozing off in his car seat while his mother was driving down I-880. Rival gangs Chopper City and Eddy Rock were having a running gunfight around at around 2 pm.

The parents revealed that they feel unsafe living in the lawless city following the tragic death of their son, according to Daily Mail. Three people who were involved in the "rolling gun battle" have been detained by the police bringing some closure to the Wu family. However, it's been two years and they are still yet to be sentenced. Jasper was pronounced dead at the nearby children's hospital on November 6, 2021.

She still 'feels fear'

In an effort to "reduce recidivism," Pamela Price, the district attorney for Alameda County, is now advising her staff of prosecutors not to pursue enhanced charges in criminal cases. It follows that any criminal enhancement that would have been imposed will probably not be done so this time, which will shorten the time Jasper's killers are imprisoned. An Wu, Jasper's mother, told ABC 7 in San Francisco that it would be a bad idea while adding, "if that happens, what kind of message are we sending to the public?" She then further added that she still 'feels fear' every time she drives through Oakland.

'Bring balance back to sentence'

Three persons faced murder charges in connection with the killing of Jasper. The accused are Johnny Jackson, 28, Trevor Green, 22, and Ivory Bivins, 24. However, they have not yet faced a trial. The fourth member of the gang, who was also involved, died in another firefight before being apprehended. Price hopes to "bring balance back to sentence and prevent recidivism" by prohibiting prosecutors from filing "enhancements," according to an internal document acquired from her office. The Wu family has criticized her intentions, but Price hasn't yet responded.

Oakland is only a short distance from San Francisco, where former DA Chesa Boudin implemented some of the most radical changes in the country. During his leadership, crime, and homelessness increased, and open-air drug markets became widespread. Brooke Jenkins took his place last year and she has sworn to bring the city back into order.
