Jason Curtis: Florida man charged with killing stepdaughter's ex in front of victim's 4-year-old daughter
NAVARRE, FLORIDA: Jason L Curtis, a Florida man is charged with first-degree premeditated murder of his stepdaughter’s ex-partner, Colby Vinson. Curtis is also booked on the count of tampering with evidence and accessory after the fact to first-degree murder. Apparently, Vinson recently won split custody of his four-year-old daughter, whom he shared with the child’s mother Rachel Moore.
“I will say this about Mr Curtis though, what a human piece of trash. I mean, to shoot somebody with their four-year-old child right there,” Santa Rosa County Sheriff Robert Johnson said during a Monday, March 27, news conference. “I mean, I get up here ad nauseam and tell you about how I’m shocked about how people treat other people, this just goes beyond that. It’s horrible", he added. Officers reached the scene after they were alarmed about a shooting at an apartment complex located in the 7700 block of Navarre Parkway in Navarre on the night of March 19. The location is about 170 miles west of Tallahassee.

'Killer had shared pictures of knives/guns'
The first responders found Vinson’s body lying on the concrete just outside his front door. The victim appeared to have suffered a gunshot wound to the face and was pronounced dead on the scene. However, it was more disturbing to learn about his four-year-old daughter, who was beside his dead body but without any injury. The investigators were able to reach Moore and had an ‘ominous’ conversation with shooter Curtis. Moore who referred to his stepdad as ‘Booger’ allegedly said that when she shared the news that the court has given Vinson split custody, “he sent her pictures of knives/guns through Facebook Messenger.”
'Going to put his ‘ass’ in the wind'
“Rachel [Moore] thanked [Curtis] for making her feel better, and later would delete her Facebook Messenger app because it looked bad having this conversation with him,” the legal document reads. “Last night (3/19/2023) [Curtis] called [Moore] at approximately 10 pm and stated she did not have to worry about it, everything was fine, he had to go, and he had to put his ‘ass’ in the wind.” Moore also said that when she was speaking to ‘Curtis’ he appeared ‘excited’ and she had promised that she “Would pay him $50 in gas,’ reports Law&Crime.
It came as a shock to her that Curtis would end up killing Vinson. According to authorities, the investigation is ongoing and additional arrests are probable in the matter.
