James Gunn may have switched to DC to helm 'The Suicide Squad', but for those who hoped he had some insider information were thoroughly disappointed. The director took to Instagram on Saturday answering questions about his Marvel stint, working on 'Guardians of the Galaxy' and 'Guardians' of the Galaxy Vol 2' as well as his favorite comic characters.

One fan question involved the release of the Snyder cut of 'Justice League'. This version has been an enigma of sorts. DC fans have believed that a cut of the film by Zack Snyder does exist and this fan particular asked if a cut of the film would debut on HBO Max. "Will the Snyder Cut come on HBO Max?" to which Gunn replied: "Not that I know of."

Snyder stepped down as director on the project during the post-production phase after the death of his daughter Autumn Snyder in 2017, bringing Whedon in to finish off editing on the movie. The final version of the movie that fans got to watch was a mess, constantly switching between a lighter and darker narrative tone and never really figuring out what sort of movie it wanted to be.

Last year, Ben Affleck and Gal Gadot jumped on the bandwagon of stars and fans calling for the release of director Zack Snyder's cut of 'Justice League'. The actors who played Batman and Wonder Woman in the ensemble DC Superhero film had joined the movement on Twitter using the hashtag #ReleaseTheSnyderCut.

On April 1, a tweet from @HBOMaxOfficial (Note this is not the same as the streaming service's actual account) had Twitter in an uproar after they said the much-awaited and elusive Zack Snyder cut of 'Justice League' would be available on the streaming service when it launches next month. To make the claim sound real, they even used a tribute poster of the movie created by BossLogic. Needless to say, it had fans unhappy.

The tweet read: "You asked for it and we listened. We're releasing the Zack Snyder's Justice League as a launch title for #HBOMax in May 2020. 214 minutes in 4K resolution. He will rise. #ReleaseTheSnyderCut."
