The hierarchy of power in the DC Universe is about to change for real and might take it in the right direction. In one of the most surprising news coming from Hollywood, James Gunn will now be taking his services to Warner Bros and DC in the most extraordinary way possible. After giving some of the most successful movies in Marvel Cinematic Universe’s (MCU) history, Gunn will now be leading the DC Studios, a new unit that will oversee all the films and TV projects, both live-action and animated.

The news of DC’s new leadership was first confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter and comes after Warner Bros. Discovery spent months looking for someone to run the aforementioned unit. However, Gunn won’t be the only man leading the studio and will be joined by producer Peter Safran to work collectively on movies, TV shows, and Animated titles.

As per the press release shared by Warner Bros. Discovery, Gunn and Safran will be the co-chairmen and chief executive officers of DC Studios. The release also noted that Gunn will be seeing the creative side of things, while Safran will be more involved in the business and production area. Most importantly, even though they are holding such an important position now, it doesn’t mean that they won’t be directing or producing movies. Gunn and Safran will continue to direct and produce movies, respectively.

The new members of the DC Studios will directly report to Warner Bros Discovery CEO David Zaslav and work closely with other important members of the group, including Michael De-Luca and Pamela Abdy.

In a joint-statement shared, Gunn and Safran said that they are honored to be the new “stewards” of the DC characters that they have loved since they were very young. They added, “Our commitment to Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Harley Quinn, and the rest of the DC stable of characters is only equaled by our commitment to the wonder of human possibility these characters represent.”

As soon as the news surfaced online, social media went berserk and congratulated Gunn and Safran for their new positions. On the other hand, people took a sigh of relief because they feel finally some good news has come out from the WB Discovery camp. One of the fans said, “I for one am excited. James Gunn has made some of the best CBMs ever and I trust that he and Peter Safran can lead the DCEU in an exciting, new, and successful direction.” Another social media user tweeted, “Good news from Warner Bros. for once! Awesome!”

Meanwhile, there were some who wanted the new bosses to release the ‘Batgirl’ movie. One social media user noted, “Now, can James Gunn and DC release ‘Batgirl’ movie? Serve the fans. The Rock started it and now you can add to it.”

“This might be good for DC. They desperately needed a Feige kind of guy that oversaw things, DC has two now, so we’ll see. Now all that needs to happen is a hard reset,” tweeted another user. “YESSS!!! OMG, this is the best news ever holy s***!!!” wrote another one. “There is no better person to lead comic book products than James Gunn. Awesome choice,” tweeted another one.

Another fan wrote, “Finally, DC is saved.”

This comes as a huge relief for Warner Bros. Discovery and DCEU because things were getting out of hand because of the Ezra Miller controversy and the cancellation of projects such as ‘Batgirl’. However, the studio is now looking to make a strong comeback with a couple of good news this week. Yesterday, we found out that Henry Cavill will be reprising the role of Superman in upcoming DC movies and made a cameo in the mid-credits scene in ‘Black Adam’. Meanwhile, last week, it was reported that a new Superman movie is in the work with Cavill donning the suit once again.

Fans hope that the move of having Gunn and Safran might turn out to be a game-changer for DC and they are willing to take a leap of faith for DCEU’s better future.
