'His spirit remains intact': Mountain lion viciously attacks boy, 5, before mom 'wrestled' beast off him
HALF MOON BAY, CALIFORNIA: A mountain lion viciously assaulted a five-year-old boy, leaving him with facial lacerations, cuts, and bruises after his mother had to get the animal off of him in California. The assault on Jack Trexler of Half Moon Bay took place on Tuesday at 6.50 pm. Suzie Trexler, his mother, was forced to fight the beast off of her son, who suffered some "battle wounds."
"He is the most courageous, adventurous little guy I have ever met and I am not surprised that if there was a kid who could wrestle a mountain lion and come out on top, it would be Jack," said his aunt Amie Wagner on GoFundMe, which has already raised more than $26,000 in one day. The Aunt continued, "Jack has many lacerations, especially on his precious face, in addition to a fracture near one eye. He is covered in cuts, bruises and scratches but his spirit remains intact." She further continued, "That mountain lion picked the wrong kid and mama to mess with. Jack and his mom bravely fought off the attack but he was left with some battle wounds in the process."

What happened to Jack Trexler?
The mountain lion reportedly just scratched Jack; it did not bite him. The family was informed that the mountain lion narrowly missed a nerve near his eye by one centimeter. It pounced on Jack as he was walking in front of his mother and grandparents along Tunitas Creek Road in the vicinity of their farm Potrero Nuevo. The family believes Jack scared the mountain lion away as it was getting a drink, as per San Francisco Chronicle.
As per the report, when the animal started attacking her child, Suzie charged at it. The beast released Jack as she walked up. In an instant, Suzie grabbed her child and "ran down the hill" to get him to safety and to a nearby hospital. According to aunt Wagner, who spoke to the San Francisco Chronicle, Jack was later moved to a trauma center. The child is currently recovering from the assault at home with his family and is anticipated to recover fully.
'Hero Mom'
"Suzie is a real strong mother and she is a hero," Wagner told the outlet. "It’s obviously been traumatic, but I think she’s ready to focus on the positive, knowing how much worse it could have been." Captain Patrick Foy of the Department of Fish and Wildlife concurred, stating, "The attack was very, very vicious in nature. Every indication is that (the mother) saved her son’s life."
Authorities have taken DNA samples from Jack's wounds in an effort to identify the mountain lion, which is still at large.
