DJ/Producer J.Period released 'Vol 2 Water' of his award-winning mixtape homage to Lauryn Hill on Apple Music on February 21. 'The Best Of Lauryn Hill, Vol 2 Water' completes the catalog and follows the release of 'Vol 1 Fire,' which debuted on February 14.

The project translates as a love letter to the hip hop and R&B icon whose boundless talents have set her as a standard to this day which all other rappers and singers are measured, regarded as the best female rapper of all time.

Hill began her new tour last week with dates extending to July, performing tomorrow at United Palace in New York City. Hill will also make a stop at The Kennedy Center for 'Black Girls Rock!' in March. Featuring as a kind of musical documentary, J.Period's mixtape redefines itself across the boundaries of your average mixtape with its addition of re-imagined hits, remixes, live performances and behind-the-scenes interviews.

'The Best of Lauryn Hill' divides itself into two distinct collections. 'Vol 1 Fire' gives a nod Hill's flame-spitting mic skills, while 'Vol 2 Water' attributes the MC's fluid versatility and the deep emotional connection between her fans and her music.

J.Period describes the mixtape as always having held "a special place for me, both as a fan and as a DJ".

“As a fan, the impact of hearing Hill’s verses back to back is undeniable—you can’t listen and not count her among the greatest MC’s to ever touch a mic. As a DJ, the blueprint created by this collection sparked countless collaborations for me that continue to this day: Q-Tip, Mary J. Blige, John Legend, Black Thought and The Roots," he said.

"I’m deeply grateful to Hill for the inspiration, both as a fan and a DJ, and I’m extremely excited to introduce this project to the streaming universe for the first time. Telling stories through music is the goal of these mixtapes, and I hope that, through this project, a new generation of fans will come to appreciate the power of Hill’s music and story, as I do," added J.Period.
