Ivanka Trump walks out to 'I'm Still Standing' at RNC, livid Elton John fans ask singer 'did you approve this?'

Elton famously turned down Trump's invitation to perform at his inauguration in 2017 and he, along with 50 other musicians had asked both parties not to use their songs without their permission

The fact that Ivanka Trump chose to walk out onto the stage on the final night of the Republican National Convention (RNC) to the tune of 'I'm Still Standing' by Elton John did not go down well with social media users.

President Donald Trump and his family have not had the best of relationships with Elton in the past few years as the musician despite him being one of POTUS' favorite musicians. Elton famously turned down Trump's invitation to perform at his inauguration back in 2017 and he, along with 50 other musicians penned an open letter to Republicans and Democrats, asking them to stop using their songs without permission back in July this year.

Back in June, The Artists Rights Alliance (ARA) addressed the letter urging politicians on both sides of the aisle "to pledge that all candidates you support will seek consent from featured recording artists and songwriters before using their music in the campaign and political settings," adding, "'This is the only way to effectively protect your candidates from legal risk."

And despite the letter, Trump's eldest daughter made her entrance into the RNC on Thursday, August 27, to Elton's song. The Internet was furious and people began calling out the GOP for using Elton's song without his consent. There were also those who tweeted at Elton, wanting to know if he was aware of the fact that one of his songs was going to feature on the RNC.

Here are a few of the reactions

"Oh, yes they did! They used an Elton John song for Ivanka’s entrance: I’m Still Standing. They don’t give a shit if they steal someone else’s life’s work," tweeted an angry viewer.

Another livid viewer said: "And ontop of it Elton John song I'm still standing plays for Ivanka? How funny as shit. A**hole."

"I hope @eltonofficial has a cease and desist letter out before @realDonaldTrump wakes up," said a third hoping Elton was taking notice of what was happening.

While another had a different song suggestion for the first daughter: "They should have used Love Lies Bleeding."

More started giving suggestions on what song could have played instead of Elton's and it wasn't pleasant: "The B***h is Back would have been a better song for Ivanka. If you're going to desecrate a Elton John song, at least make it one that we can relate you too. When has Ivanka ever fallen down again? #TheBitchisBack #EltonJohn Why can't Trumps just use #artists who support them?"

"@eltonofficial Ivanka used your song, 'I'm Still Standing' to come out and seek for her father at the RNC2020! So sick of these people just using music without permission from the artist's themselves!", wrote one.

"Ivanka just ruined this song for me," declared one viewer, angry at the usage of the song.

"Also, was Ivanka’s intro song REALLY a cover of 'I’m Still Standing,' or did I mishear? Has anyone checked on Elton John tonight? Is he okay?" asked a concerned viewer.

One had a suggestion about how to get at Ivanka for this: "The queer coded-ness of I'm Still Standing with Ivanka Dump using that song... Elton John please make mean Jesus jokes once again to trigger xtian freaks"

"@eltonofficial Aren't you upset that your song 'I'm stilling standing' was played when Ivanka Trump came out? You should make it known that they violated your copyright & charge them for the use of it. It makes it appear you are his fan," pointed out an unhappy viewer.

"@eltonofficial did you approve the use of your song for Ivanka Trump tonight?", were some of the many inquiries that came the singer's way.

Elton is yet to respond to the queries posed by fans on social media.
