Ivanka reveals she gets her 'moral compass' from father Donald Trump
Ivanka Trump has credited her father, US President Donald Trump, as the source of her moral compass. Speaking to high-power Republican donors at a posh GOP retreat, Ivanka made the remark when she was asked about the personality traits she has received from either of her parents.
At the event in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, all the way back in mid-August, the first daughter had revealed that Trump's ex-wife and her mother, Ivana, taught her how to be a powerful, successful woman. Dazzling the crowd with insider tidbits about their lives in the Trump administration, both Ivanka and her husband Jared Kushner, were in attendance at the 120-donor gathering organized by Republican House Leader Kevin McCarthy, Politico reported.
The goal of the event was to humanize the POTUS via insider scoops on his administration in order to gain support for the 2020 elections. Ivanka's pitch to donors was moderated by former 'Entertainment Tonight' host Mary Hart, and as per Politico, in the middle of her pitch, Trump called in to greet the crowd, assuring them that they were in good hands of his capable daughter and son-in-law.
"You have to have a draw to convince donors to write a $50,000 check to come to a fundraiser," a White House adviser shared with Politico, adding: "The president and vice president are obviously a draw, and Melania Trump would be amazing, if she would do it. The next best things are the kids. You have to fill the program with surrogates the donors want to see."
Speaking about her legendary relationship with her father, Ivanka had told the Republican National Convention in 2016: "My father taught my siblings and me the importance of positive values and a strong ethical compass." Even though she is yet to elaborate on what exactly she means by that, Ivanka has always spoken highly of her father's business skills, even though the president has struggled with debt and financing issues in the past, and still faces questions about his unreleased taxes, which he claims are under audit.
His personal life has been under scrutiny too, with him having left Ivana after an affair with Marla Maples, whom he later got married to, and divorced as well. His questionable treatment of women has been critcicized too; during the 2016 campaign, a tape of an interview he gave to 'Access Hollywood' in 2005, shows him saying, "When you're a star, they let you do it, you can do anything ... grab 'em by the p****."
Yet Ivanka stood by her father and heavily campaigned for him in the 2016 election - paticularly trying to gain the vote of women, including introducing him in June 2015, when Trump came down the levator at Trump Tower to announce his candidacy for president. As for Trump's praises for Ivanka, he shared with The Atlantic in April that "If she ever wanted to run for president, I think she'd be very, very hard to beat."
