Ivanka Trump trolled with Bible verses after posting tone-deaf quote from holy book amid George Floyd protests

Although her intentions may have been noble, she was accused of pandering to her father's voter base of white conservative Christians instead of offering real words of solace

Amid widespread unrest following the death of George Floyd, Ivanka Trump attempted to calm the nation with a verse from the Bible. However, all she did was outrage people on social media even more than they already were. Protests have broken out in many American cities after Floyd, a black man from Minneapolis, died on May 25 after a white police officer knelt on his neck for many minutes while detaining him.

"'This is what the Lord said: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears. I will heal you.' 2 Kings 20:5" she tweeted. Although her intentions behind posting the tweet might have been noble, she was accused of pandering to her father's voter base - mostly comprised of white conservative Christians - instead of offering real words of peace and solace. At a time when the horrific case of police brutality has added to the havoc wreaked by the coronavirus outbreak, the first daughter's tweet felt tone-deaf to many.

As a result, critics of both President Donald Trump as well as Ivanka stormed the comments section to counter her verse with other Bible verses. "Ivanka, stop it. 'Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint and dill and cumin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faithfulness. These you ought to have done, without neglecting the others!' -Matthew 23:23" one wrote, while another quipped: "Since its Bible Trivia Sunday, chew on this one... 'Isaiah 10:1-3 Woe to those who make unjust laws, to those who issue oppressive decrees, to deprive the poor of their rights and withhold justice from the oppressed of my people,'" another wrote.

A third said: "'When the wicked rule, the people groan.' Proverbs 29:2," and a fourth commented: "'A ruler who lacks understanding is a cruel oppressor, but he who hates unjust gain will prolong his days.' Proverbs 28:16"

A fifth wrote: "'You shall not judge unfairly: you shall show no partiality; you shall not take bribes, for bribes blind the eyes of the discerning and upset the plea of the just. Justice, justice shall you pursue' (Deut. 16:18-20)."

There were also those who pointed out to Ivanka that her choice of verse might not have been the ideal on to offer to people under such circumstances. "This is literally an excerpt from a Bible story about deliverance from a mad king," one said, while others attacked her vanity and less-than-intelligent statements made by her in the past. "Ivanka has the most 'my father, the inventor of toaster strudel' energy of anyone ever" one said, while another wrote, "Find someone who loves you as much as Ivanka loves being ratioed."

Ivanka, her husband, Jared Kushner, and their two kids were last seen joining her father to attend Elon Musk's historic SpaceX rocket launch in Florida. She glammed up for the occasion, wearing a $1,790 button-down midi dress by Lela Rose which featured thin straps and a large yellow rose printed across the front. It seemed like she was ready for the summer as her face mask, printed with small yellow flowers perfectly complemented her dress.
