INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA: Twitter went wild after a "statement of candidacy" was submitted to the FEC on behalf of Mike Pence on Monday, December 26. However, a representative for the former vice president has since clarified that Pence did not submit papers to run for president.

Spokesman Devin O'Malley tweeted, "Former Vice President Mike Pence did not file to run for President today," and later claimed that Twitter users and journalists had been "pranked." An FEC representative told Fox News that the organization has a procedure for looking over possibly fraudulent or counterfeit documents.

A "Mr Mike Richard Pence" submitted a statement of candidacy at 5.12 pm on Monday, December 26. The former VP's first name has always been listed as "Michael" rather than "Mike" in previous FEC filings, as per the Fox report. 

Roger Stone unleashes criticism after Mike Pence declares candidacy

Roger stone, a conservative political consultant, lobbyist, and author, unleashed a volley of criticism following the announcement. He posted an image of the Federal Election Commission's statement on Twitter and wrote in the caption, "It's Fugazi ! FEC " filing" of Mike Pence is a fraud. Pence, widely despised outside the beltway has ZERO chance of becoming the 2024 Republican Presidential nominee #dirtytrick@dcdraino@MarkAVargas."

In response to Stone's tweet, someone wrote, "He's high on Koch :)" Another tweet read, "I'd like to see him really file. Then he can see how much people dislike him." Someone else said, "He knows that...but he'll make a ton of money playing the game.....running for office is a business enterprise...win or lose....$$$$$ to be made..."

"Has more chance than Trump," another quipped. "I’d vote for a chain link fence before I’d ever vote for pence. Pence definition: it is usually the smallest denomination within a currency system. Presently, it is the formal name of the British penny ( abbr. p) and the de facto name of the American one-cent coin," someone else said. "No one likes Pence…" another declared while a third said, "Don’t care, can’t stand the loser. He’s a liar and cheat." "Agreed, they might be testing the waters to see if any of us have changed her mind. Mine still made up #neverpence," a tweet asserted.

One individual tweeted, "Pence is a right-hand man & he's good at it. He's not a leader though." However, some claimed Pence stood a chance nevertheless. A user wrote, "Come on Roger, these elections are fixed. He has a 1000% chance of being elected." "He’s the Antichrist and everyone will vote for him," a tweet read. "He is despicable," wrote another.
