‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Season 2 Episode 4 sets up a major MCU character’s death
Contains spoilers for 'Daredevil: Born Again' Season 2 Episode 4
'Daredevil: Born Again' Season 2 continues to crank up the action in Hell's Kitchen. Episode 4 ends with an absolute shocker, asking the important question: Will Vanessa Fisk (Ayelet Zurer) die? Episode 4, titled ‘Gloves Off,’ dropped at 9 PM EDT on Disney+ on April 7, which showed how Benjamin 'Dex' Poindexter, aka Bullesye (Wilson Bethel), has made his mark in a major way. He puts himself in the spotlight after he kills Wilson Fisk's, aka Kingpin (Vincent D' Onofrio), Anti Vigilante Task Force (AVTF), after trapping them in a diner.
Matt Murdock, aka Daredevil (Charlie Cox), tracks him down after the former leaves a token from Murdock's old church at the diner. Dardevil speaks to the pastor, who reveals Bullseye's location. A confrontation follows when Bullseye tells Daredevil that he intends to level things by doing "one good deed" to make up for killing Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson) in the Season 1 premiere. Bullseye makes his intentions clear by stating that Fisk is his target, even as Murdock tries to reason it out. At the other end, Fisk prepares for his boxing bout. To keep Vanessa safe, he sends her to Albany, and she returns just in time to see Fisk win. The aftermath is bloody carnage, with Bullseye arriving and starting to kill people.
In the bloodbath that ensues, Vanessa shoots him as he throws a souvenir to her, which Fisk bats away. But in a shock move, a broken fragment lodges itself in her head. The final shot sees her lying still, but breathing. Not only does the ending tease a grim end for the character, but it also highlights the ramifications of a potential major death. While making it out alive after a head trauma is rare, 'Daredevil: Born Again' is not new to killing important characters. That said, Vanessa is also a character one would not want to kill off, considering her influence on the show.
Her death, if confirmed, will also see Fisk shed all restraint and revert to his savagery. There is every possibility that Fisk will unlock a never-before-seen evil version of himself in the wake of a potential death. Then comes the possibility of Vanessa being shown to be alive, but maybe losing her memory. Either way, the emotional impact it has on Fisk will be a major plotline for the remainder of the season. For now, her survival arc is a wait with Episode 5 of 'Daredevil: Born Again' Season 2 releasing next Tuesday at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.
