Is Trump high on steroids? Internet says POTUS 'could be more maniacal' than usual for next 10 days due to drug

Despite news of the president feeling 'better than...20 years ago', the information that caught Twitter's attention was that Trump was given the steroid dexamethasone as part of his Covid-19 treatment

US President Donald Trump was recently diagnosed with coronavirus after testing positive for it on October 2. After spending three days at the Walter Reed Military Center, on Monday, October 5, he soon provided an update about his health and tweeted, "I will be leaving the great Walter Reed Medical Center today at 6:30 P.M. Feeling really good! Don’t be afraid of Covid. Don’t let it dominate your life. We have developed, under the Trump Administration, some really great drugs & knowledge. I feel better than I did 20 years ago!"

Despite the above news of the president feeling "better than...20 years ago", the information that caught Twitter's attention was that Trump was given the steroid dexamethasone as part of his Covid-19 treatment. The steroid treatment is used to help severely ill patients with Covid-19 and contradicts the picture of good health the White House’s previous statements and Trump himself has projected. It also raised questions about the potential side effects of steroids, including “grandiose delusions," according to The Intelligencer.

However, people too have been talking about dexamethasone and its potential side effects, one user wrote, "Trump will be more maniacal than usual for 10 days after Saturday when he started dexamethasone. That means, if he is not re-hospitalized by then, he'll either have a massive steroid crash starting 10/16, or will have to stay doped up (and get crazier by the day) until election," while another, referring to his claims of Joe Biden being on drugs, tweeted, "Trump couldn’t pass a drug test for the next debate. He’s on steroids, the mother of all performance enhancing drugs."

More Twitter users spoke about dexamethasone, with one saying, "If Trump is receiving Dexamethasone, a steroid, the CDC suggest that he could be infectious for 20 days. As an ICU nurse, dealing with Covid-19, Trump should be in quarantine for at least 20 days. Why is no one talking about that?" while another, calling Trump's energy fake, added, "Sanjay Gupta with some real talk about some of the meds Trump is on (including the steroid) - it makes you have false energy  and engage in behavior that is not what the doctor would like to see."

Another, calling Trump's tweets "roid rage", tweeted, "The last time I took steroids was in March for Covid. I ripped a t-shirt off of my body from the neck down because the material was scratchy and irritating my skin. Here are Trump's tweets from the last hour and it's clear he's got that ROID RAGE."

Calling Trump's claim of feeling better than "20 years ago" an effect of steroids, another detractor said, "President Trump: "I feel better than I did 20 years ago!"
THAT'S the dexamethasone (i.e. steroids)," while a different user, listing the side effects of dexamethasone, said, "According to the Mayo Clinic, that steroid’s side-effects include aggression, agitation, anxiety, irritability, mood changes and noisy, rattling breathing and weight gain."

Talking about Trump's behavior once the "steroids" wear off, another tweeted, "Once the steroids wear off, Trump will be in trouble. He will be back at Walter Reed. The place his COVID carrying butt should have never left in the first place. Reality will win in a COVID-19 battle."
