As the voting day is approaching, all eyes are glued to the election campaigns of President Donald Trump and Joe Biden. While both the Democrats and Republicans have been at loggerheads throughout, everyone is just waiting eagerly for the outcome of the November 3 election.

Trump has been claiming since the beginning that he is confident of getting another term. He has been doubting the mail-in-ballots and trying to recruit law enforcement as poll watchers, as reported by Vanity Fair. A report in The Atlantic had alleged that, according to sources in the Republican Party at the state and national levels the Trump campaign is deliberating contingency plans to sidestep election results and have their loyal electors in battleground states where Republicans hold the legislative majority. Their justification will be based on allegations of rampant fraud. And, using this excuse Trump allegedly would ask state legislators to set aside the popular vote and exercise their power to choose a slate of electors directly.

On September 23, Trump held a press conference at the White House. According to a CNN report, when asked about committing to a peaceful transition, POTUS said, “Well, we're going to have to see what happens.” He further said, “You know that I've been complaining very strongly about the ballots and the ballots are a disaster,” Trump said at the press briefing, supposedly referring to mail-in ballots. The report further states, Trump said, “(G)et rid of the ballots and you'll have a very ... there won't be a transfer, frankly. There'll be a continuation," he added, saying "the ballots are out of control."

As per the report, Trump had previously claimed that his rival Biden would only win in November if the election is “rigged,” and suggested, earlier in the day, that there is a possibility that the results of the election would be contested all the way to the Supreme Court. According to CNN, national polls currently show Trump trailing Biden, though surveys of electoral battleground states are tighter.

Soon on Twitter #TrumpCoupPlot began trending and people had a lot to say. One user said, “Trump will NOT commit to a peaceful exchange of power. He's determined to forcefully remain in office, no matter the result of the 2020 election.THIS SHOULD BE A HUGE STORY. #TrumpCoupPlot” Another commented, “A #TrumpCoupPlot can only be stopped by millions of people ready to take to the streets in peaceful protest. Pass it on.” Another stated, “Trump saying he won't agree to a transfer of power if he loses, is akin to a hostile takeover. We could argue if it's by a foreign country! Where are all the Constitutionalist? Hope they storm the Whitehouse like they did the Michigan State Capital...”

One user said, “Trump wants to PUSH thru SCOTUS for One Reason: He wants to delegitimize the Traditional Elections we Hold & create a Structure that Allows him to Stay In Power.” Another alleged, “It is a Constitutional Coup. Trump is a master Manipulator of the legal system. He cheated even #WallStreet when bankrupting his casinos. He and Mercenaries Republicans will call “Voter Fraud” and it will be months, even years in legal battles.” One stated, “Showing any unwillingness to have a peaceful transfer of power should automatically get you kicked out of office.”
