Is Russell Gage OK? Buccaneers wide receiver rushed off field after struggling to get up following a hit
TAMPA, FLORIDA: In a tragic incident, Buccaneers wide receiver Russell Gage was carted off the field with a neck injury after a collision with Cowboys safety Donovan Wilson with just three minutes remaining in the game. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers lost 31-14 to the Dallas Cowboys on Monday, January 16, with ESPN commentators calling it a "sobering moment" after Gage failed to get up.
Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles explained that the NFL player was taken to the hospital. Bowles said, "They're also testing him for potential neck injuries. His fingers were moving when he was down. I don't know about the rest." After the incident, quarterback Tom Brady looked shaken when he saw his teammate on the field. Both teams knelt in prayer while coaches tended to the struggling athlete, according to the Sun. Gage was then placed on a spine and escorted off the field. Fans were distraught after the incident and took to Twitter to pray for the injured player. Gage reportedly injured his back last week in a game against the Atlanta Falcons, but was declared fit for Monday's game. ESPN wrote, "The Cowboys and Bucs gathered on the field after Russell Gage Jr went down with an apparent injury. He was carted off the field."
