LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: There has been a recent surge in reboots, with classics like 'Top Gun: Maverick' making a comeback years later, and now the spooky world of 'Nightwatch' will also mark its return with the release of its sequel 'Nightwatch: Demons Are Forever' on Friday, May 17, 2024.

Under the direction of the film's original director, Ole Bornedal, the sequel will make its streaming debut on Shudder with Nikolaj Coster-Waldau reprising his role as Martin Bork.

The heart-pounding sequel explores Copenhagen's shadowy underbelly once more, but this time through the eyes of a new protagonist struggling with the ghosts of the past.

The plot of the sequel will similarly track the aftermath of the previous film, where even years later, Martin continues to struggle with the fallout from his night watch.

This time, Emma (Fanny Leander Bornedal), Martin's daughter, takes it upon herself to unravel the mystery shrouding that fateful night.

After she accepts the night watch position in the Forensic Medicine Institute, the situation drastically changes as she awakens Wörmer from his coma, setting off a series of events that worsen the already grim circumstances.

Kim Bodnia returns to essay  Jens Arnkiel in 'Nightwatch: Demons Are Forever'

As hinted in the film's trailer, several original cast members will return to reprise their roles in the sequel. Alongside Nikolaj reprising his character of Martin, Kim Bodnia and Ulf Pilgaard are also slated to make appearances in the film.

Pilgaard will reprise his role as the terrifying serial killer Wörmer, while Bodnia will reprise her role as Jens Arnkiel.

Furthermore, Ole Bornedal, the director of the first film, has taken on the role of director once more, and similar to the first film, he has also written the screenplay for the sequel.

A new protagonist will take center stage in 'Nightwatch: Demons Are Forever'

The protagonist is the key difference between the two films. In the first 'Nigtwatch' film, Nikolaj portrayed the character of Martin, who inadvertently becomes the prime suspect in the Copenhagen killings.

In the sequel, Fanny Leander Bornedal, the daughter of filmmaker Ole Bornedal, steps into the role of Emma, Martin's daughter, as she seeks closure on a traumatic incident involving her parents from her past.

Thirty years after her parents' horrific ordeal, Emma's investigation unleashes long-dormant evil, leaving her with little alternative but to confront the Wörmer.

'Nightwatch: Demons Are Forever' will also delve into the intricacies of how past suffering reverberates through present and future generations.

Overall, with a new perspective, 'Nightwatch: Demons Are Forever' promises to deliver the same spine-tingling experience as its 1994 predecessor.

If you liked 'Nightwatch,' the sequel ought to be on your must-watch list. If not, don't worry—the new film offers a fresh perspective with a new protagonist and a plot that takes place decades later.
