The election race is getting heated up almost every day. It’s not just President Donald Trump versus Joe Biden, but also the state senators fighting it out among themselves. Senator Lindsey Graham on September 24 told Fox News that he was “getting killed financially” by his Democratic opponent Jamie Harrison.

He said: “My opponent will raise $100 million in the state of South Carolina. The most money ever spent in the history of the state on a Senate race in this state was by me in 2014 when I spent $13 million. I'm being killed financially. This money is because they hate my guts.”

As per The Hill, the figure Graham was referring to wasn’t exactly clear because according to the last Federal Election Commission filings in June, Harrison raised just over $28 million compared to Graham’s $29 million. Graham was ahead of Harrison in June-end as well, with the Republican reporting $15 million in cash reserves compared to Harrison’s $10.2 million.

According to the report, Graham observed that Harrison reportedly raised $6 million in the 72 hours after Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg died on September 18. Earlier as well, talking to Fox News, Graham requested viewers to “help me fight back” by contributing to his campaign. “They’re not going to intimidate me, [Senate Majority Leader] Mitch McConnell [R-Ky.] or anybody else,” Graham said Monday. “I’m getting outraised 3 to 1, outspent 4 to 1,” he said, according to The Hill.

According to The State, Harrison raised has $10.6 million during the month of August, according to his campaign. It is more than the amount raised by Graham. The report states, Graham brought in $8.4 million in April, May and June combined and his campaign has not released its fundraising totals for August.

The Cook Political Report noted that the race between Harrison and Graham as “lean” Republican, even though Harrison has made some progress in some polls showing an increasingly tight race. A Newsweek report states that Ginsburg's death led to a lot of donations to Democratic campaigns. ActBlue, the platform Democrats use to raise funds online, reportedly had record contributions on September 18 night. Newsweek reports that over $30 million were donated through the site between 9:00 pm that evening and 9:00 am the next morning.

Twitter joined in the chatter too and many extended their support towards Harrison. One user wrote: “I’m being killed financially because they hate my guts.” - @LindseyGrahamSC on how much more money @harrisonjaime has raised than Graham.
