According to The Sun, the UFC chief Dana White confirmed Pena was immediately taken to see specialists as soon as her defeat was confirmed by the judges after lasting the distance. White said: "Julianna's got a big chunk missing from her forehead. She's going to see a plastic surgeon right now." White fears it could be the end of Pena's spectacular career, which saw her win UFC bantamweight world champion by defeating Nunes in a big upset last December at UFC 269.
White continued: "It takes some time to heal and then I don't know. "She got pretty banged up tonight, she got five or six knockdowns in the first two rounds. She was hurt. She needs to take some time off, relax, spend some time with her daughter and then we will go from there." White told Daily Mail that Pena and Nunes, according to White, are not comparable. Julianna is as tough as nails, and her determination to win is unrivaled. "She wanted to win."
Post-fight, Nunes spoke to ESPN MMA and said " I told you guys, I am better wrestling than her, I have many opportunities to finish her (Pena) on the floor but I choose but I choose like, you know what... I am gonna prove even more to her that I can dominate her right here tonight so I did it." After being asked if this brought her any satisfaction tonight after a tough five-round fight, Nunes said " This is what I want it to be, to do big things, I don't accept anything less than that. I thank life for showing me things that are unbelievable and the energy it provides makes me the person I am today."
After the win, Nunes flawlessly downed a pint of beer she'd been dying to drink. UFC_AUSNZ posted a video of Nunes celebrating her win on Twitter, "The Double Champ deserved that beer! Here's your official Drink West Moment of the Night from #UFC277!"
