In the midst of a nationwide manhunt for possibly dead vlogger Gabby Petito's boyfriend Brian Laundrie, Twitter users were left highly confused by a video on YouTube that alleged Laundrie, who is a person of interest in the case, “accidentally” live-streamed on Instagram while being on the run.

The video, which went viral on Twitter, claimed that for a few seconds Laundrie was seen on a boat. The development comes just days after Laundrie went missing. He was reportedly not seen since September 14 but confirmed missing only on September 17. That led police to search the nearby Carlton Reserve for Laundrie, but with no luck so far. Laundrie, who allegedly hit and slapped his girlfriend last month, a 911 caller claimed, returned home to Florida on September 1 without her after a cross-country road trip. Since then, human remains matching the physical description of Petito have been discovered in a Wyoming Park by the authorities.

'#BrianLaundrie is hiding in a boat!'

The video understandably has left many following the case confused as to where Laundrie was and if he had access to a boat. There have been unconfirmed sightings of Laundrie both in Alabama as well as Florida and now a number of people on social media are convinced that he is trying to flee the country via a water route. "Has anyone heard that Brian went live on Instagram today and he was on a boat? Can anyone confirm this? #gabbypetitio #BrianLaundrie #findbrianlaundrie," one of the Twitter users said, while another noted, "#BrianLaundrie is hiding in a boat! They are always hiding in a boat."

The next quipped, "#HEYJB is it true that Brian Laundrie went live on Instagram for 3 seconds this morning? I’ve heard it showed him on a boat." One more added, "So apparently #BrianLaundrie went live on Instagram??? People took screenshots and sent them to the FBI! Let’s hope he is found alive so justice can be served!! he was also on a boat so this narcissist is trying to flee the states! Keep ya eyes open." A commenter tweeted, "I heard he accidentally went live on IG for like 2 seconds. What if he’s just trying to get the FBI looking for him out in water (which can be very hard to find because he could be anywhere), just so he can find a new place to hide. Trying to cover his tracks. #BrianLaundrie." A person reacted with, "Any confirmation on the rumor that Brian Laundrie went live on IG? I have not seen it but have seen people talking about it in different threads."

Truth behind the IG live video

Although the video has gone viral, there seems to be no truth behind the claims that Laundrie went live on Instagram. The alleged live stream originally came from YouTube channel White Noise OpEd Commentary. The real name of the YouTuber was not known. The creator said that one of her friends alleged that “Brian ‘accidentally’ live-streamed his Instagram for a few seconds and he was in a boat in a body of water." However, beyond hearsay, there was no proof regarding the claims.

YouTube users urged people to stop sharing misinformation until there’s official evidence published by authorities. “Any evidence of this?” wrote one YouTube user. “I feel like there’d be some screen grabs or something to back this up if it were in fact true. This case has gained national media attention, if he went live thousands would have posted evidence by now. I just don’t think we should speak on things without evidence when it comes to a case as large as this one because false information.” Laundrie's Instagram, meanwhile, is still active and continues to showcase a number of his pictures. It is not known if anyone else has access to his handle at the moment. He has gained thousands of followers in the recent past, bringing his account to more than 270,000 followers.
