'Invisible City' Season 2 Ending Explained: Is Eric still alive?
Spoilers ahead for 'Inisible City' Season 2.
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Netflix's original series 'Cidade Invisível' AKA 'Invisible City' has finally released its Season 2 and the series has left us with several memorable and impactful moments within the span of five episodes. The series has introduced several newer characters, including new entities like the Zaori, who can sense gold and treasure and Matinta Pere, the old witch who grants wishes. The series has also seen several of the returning characters including Marco Pigossi as Eric, Alessandra Negrini as Inês (Cuca), Manuela Dieguez as Luna and Julia Konrad as Gabriela.
Season 2 of Netflix's 'Invisible City' has given a wonderful message about the importance of forest conservation and other natural resources in a subtle yet powerful manner. In the course of the series, we were also able to learn a lot about Brazilian culture and folklore. There is no doubt that the series' second season was stronger than the first season, now that we have all the exposition out of the way. The season finale has Castro Junior going back to prison and Eric releasing his absorbed powers and returning them to their rightful owners. Luna and Bento, the wolf boy, are on the path to finding some familiar faces. The ending of the series has raised several questions though, like — What happened to Castro Junior? Is Eric alive? Let us find out.

What Happened to Castro Junior?
In one of the cathartic moments of the season finale, we get to see Castro Junior being found guilty of his crimes, including the illegal mining of mineral resources, contaminating the water and formation of a criminal organization. This is a shock for Castro Junior, who gets arrested. However, his last words are a warning to District Attorney Telma when he says he'll be "out in two weeks." Later, we see Castro Jr. in his prison cell, looking around and sitting on his bed. In an unexpected twist, we see a glimpse of a snake slithering near his legs and the scene cuts to black. There is a strong possibilities that the snake is none other than his sister Debora aka Maria Canina, the Viper. Debora lost her powers when Eric absorbs them in order to save Luna. However, we later see Eric liberating all of the powers that he has absorbed, including that of Debora. It was revealed that Debora was taken from her family by Castro Jr.'s dad, who was also responsible for killing her mother. Castro did all of these things just to get the treasure from Marangatu. So it is safe to say that in order to protect her motherland from any further harm, Debora would most definitely use her powers to prevent Castro Jr and it was she who entered the prison cell to 'neutralise' Castro Jr. with a poisonous bite.
Is Eric alive?
Eric sure had a wild journey in the second season. From waking up after more than two years to having to protect his Luna, Eric cannot catch a break. Eric learns that his grandmother had died and Luna has been living with Ines while searching for him for the past two years. Eric also learns that he can channel and absorb the powers of folkloric beings. Another added fact — Eric's wound from the season 1 finale, when he tried to get rid of the Dry Body, is spreading. This along with the several recently absorbed powers made Eric strong and dangerous. Eric does all this just to have a normal life with his daughter. However, the moment he learns the importance of Luna and his purpose on a grand scale, in protecting the sacred Marangatu, he gets ready to do his part and release all of the powers that he had previously. He is last seen with his wife Gabriela on a plane. However, the last scene of the series has given us some unexpected surprises, with the return of Isac, who was the trickster with the power of wind, Saci and a butterfly, who is obviously Ines' Cuca. Saci was not seen in season 2, except for the last scene. Saci was killed by a then-possessed Luna and Ines died after she transferred her powers to Eric. So if what we saw were the same people as we have seen in the first season, (as Saci mischievously laughed at Luna and Bento from behind), there is a strong possibility of Eric being cured and back with Luna. But it is also to be considered that Saci's laugh could be him exhibiting his personality trait. We have to wait for the next season to find out.
The gates are wide open now, with exploring the future of Luna and exploring more deep secrets of the Amazon forests. If we are lucky, we may even get the heartfelt reunion between Eric and Luna and a blast from the past from Saci. Fingers crossed!
Both seasons of 'Invisible City' is available to stream exclusively on Netflix.
