'Into the Dark: Culture Shock': Release date, plot, cast, and everything you need to know about the Independence Day horror

Focusing on the current political tension at the US-Mexico border, 'Culture Shock' will follow a young pregnant woman's nightmare as she attempts to illegally cross the border.

Hulu's ongoing horror series 'Into the Dark' has earned quite the name for itself when it comes to the anthology series genre, especially with each of its episodes airing monthly, focusing on a particular festival signifying the month, with a satirical spin on horror. Impeccably timed for the biggest American holiday - Independence Day - the upcoming episode 'Culture Shock' premieres in July and focuses on the ongoing political tension between the US and Mexico. The horror in the show revolving around the illegal immigration scene at the US-Mexico border.

Arriving just in time for the Independence Day celebrations, 'Culture Shock' premieres on July 4, 2019.

Plot: 

The official synopsis details the story of a pregnant woman, Marisol, who in her pursuit to illegally cross the border, lands in horrifying, unforeseen circumstances. "On Independence Day, a young Mexican woman is in pursuit of the American Dream. This causes her to cross illegally into the United States where she soon finds herself in an American nightmare," reads the synopsis. Accompanying Marisol is a mysterious murderer called Santo, and a young Guatemalan boy named Ricky, whom Marisol takes under her wing despite severe reluctance from Santo. As a heavily pregnant Marisol goes about her second shot at crossing the border, she is faced by threats of sexual assault and drug cartels terrorizing Mexican citizens before she faints. When she wakes up, she finds herself amidst the suspiciously calm aura of an American town where she has also given birth. Everything is nice and happy, spick and span, but this is where the actual nightmare begins.

Produced by Jason Blum's Blumhouse Productions that has gifted horror fans with the Paranormal Activity, and the Purge franchise, 'Culture Shock' comes from Gigi Saul Guerrero aka La Muñeca Del Terror. James Benson and Efrén Hernández co-wrote the episode alongside Guerrero.

She has been known for her several commendable acting credits in numerous Mexican movies and TV shows. In 'Culture shock', she plays the role of Marisol - the young pregnant woman who tries to cross the Mexico-US border and lands in a suspiciously bright and sunny America after she faints in her pursuit.

The cast also features Shawn Ashmore ('The Rookie'), Barbara Crampton, Felipe de Lara ('The Lord of the Skies') and Creed Bratton ('The Office') alongside Richard Cabral ('Mayans M.C.')
