"On Independence Day, a young Mexican woman is in pursuit of the American Dream. This causes her to cross illegally into the United States where she soon finds herself in an American nightmare," reads the synopsis. Accompanying Marisol is a mysterious murderer called Santo, and a young Guatemalan boy named Ricky, whom Marisol takes under her wing despite severe reluctance from Santo. As a heavily pregnant Marisol goes about her second shot at crossing the border, she is faced by threats of sexual assault and drug cartels terrorizing Mexican citizens before she faints.
