'Give up your vanity': Internet slams husband for asking wife who had twins to hit the gym
A husband faced people’s wrath online after he complained about the “baby weight” of his wife, who quit exercising after giving birth to their twins. The 32-year-old man noted that his wife had been rather thin and weighed between 120 and 125 pounds but, after giving birth to their twins, she grew in size and is now 180 pounds.
"I have been married to my wife for 9 years. We have a 7-year-old son together, and 2-year-old twins. With our son my wife lost her weight pretty fast, she didn't gain much to even start with. My wife has always been pretty petite. Before our twins, she was probably 120-125 lbs. She is now 180," he wrote in a post on the 'Am I The A**hole' (AITA) subreddit. He claimed that his wife used to go the gym frequently—up to four times per week—before they had children but now she makes “no attempt to lose the weight and no longer goes to the gym”.

'I basically called her unattractive'
The husband continued by claiming that his wife now feels a little self-conscious about her body as she has gained baby weight and her new jeans no longer fit. "The other night she was complaining her new jeans no longer fit and I pointed out that she still has her baby weight," he wrote in the post that has garnered 7,000 upvotes and more than 4,000 comments. "She got really upset and said I basically called her unattractive. That is not the case at all, I find my wife beautiful, but she keeps sizing up in her jeans and then acts confused about why. We’re very open with each other so I didn’t think she’d take it so offensively.”
“I told her I thought she was beautiful and that wasn’t supposed to be an insult, just that she hasn’t lost it yet. She then got defensive and said she carried two babies in her body and what did I expect?” he wrote. “She slept as far to the wall as she could get and had an attitude with me for the rest of the night”.
The post soon garnered immense social media attraction, with many users slamming the husband for pointing out his wife’s weight. “Do you look exactly the same as 9 years ago? And he hasn't birthed three children….” said one user.
'Always love her regardless of her size'
“Your wife gave birth to your three children. Always love her regardless of her size. She gave her body for your children, you can give up your vanity for her sake," the second user noted, while the third said, “Women give up their bodies to carry children, gain weight, stretch marks if they’re lucky they won’t suffer pelvic organ damage, lose career opportunities and wages. The list goes on.” “She also has three children now, so she likely has no time for the gym. Maybe if you step up more at home she’d have more time for self-care?” another user wrote.
Midwife and bestselling author Leah Hazard also reflected on the husband’s claims and told Newsweek, "There's a huge societal pressure for women to lose weight after giving birth. This comes from the deeply embedded patriarchal idea that women's bodies are messy and unattractive when they're performing basic biological functions (such as menstruation, birth, and breastfeeding), and conversely, that women's bodies are only acceptable and beautiful when they're sexually available to men."
