Carly Temple: Mississippi mom who got her hair and makeup done before giving birth splits Internet
JACKSON, MISSISSIPPI: A young mother who had her hair and makeup done in the hospital while in labor to prevent looking "sweaty" received harsh criticism on social media. Carly Temple, a Mississippi native, wanted to appear her best before giving birth to her second child in 2020, but many questioned her avarice.
The mother carried a large collection of cosmetics to the ward and was filmed curling her hair in the hospital bed in a video shared on TikTok. She also quickly recorded a selfie showcasing her full visage of makeup, which included false eyelashes, lip gloss, and shimmery eyeshadow. She had dilated to "4CM" at that time, reports Daily Mail. Temple captioned the video saying, "I really gave birth like this."

Who is Carly Temple?
Temple, a makeup and hairstylist by profession, explained that she didn't want to appear "sweaty" in the photos with the newborn and her family at the hospital. "Most of the time when you see people post-birth they look sweaty," Temple said. "I wanted to look good so I could feel good about myself," reports New York Post. She's had makeup applied for two of her three deliveries. The mother stated that her second pregnancy was a "surprise," but she still used the services for the births of her daughter Lettie, who is four months old, and son JD, who is now three.
'I wanted to look refreshed'
When she gave birth to her first child, a makeup artist and a hairstylist arrived to doll her up during the delivery, but when her daughter Lettie was born, she mostly created the look on her own. "My labor took 17 hours I was exhausted," she said about her first birth "I had my makeup done whilst I was in labor, all the doctors and nurses came in to see." But she had time to get ready before Lettie was born. "I wanted natural, dewy skin and to look refreshed and glowy," Temple stated. "My friend did my makeup and then I went to the hospital. I did my hair myself, I gave myself a blowout. I was having contractions and was feeling everything at that point," she added.
'Why so extra?'
As soon as the news broke and the video got over 700,000 views, social media users attacked the young mother with one commenting on TikTok, "Why so extra?" Another user said, "When you care more about your vanity than child." "Makeup was the LAST thing on my mind when I was in labour," one woman penned. Others on TikTok supported the mom. "I think if I had something to focus on other than whatever was playing on tv I would have had a much easier time laboring this is awesome," one person noted.
