NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: The ‘Real Housewives Of New York’ star Bethenny Frankel is indeed no stranger to making controversial statements. And sometimes, her past comments catch up to her. Such as when ‘Watch What Happens Live’ show host Andy Cohen grilled her for dissing ‘RHONY’. But this time around, it seems the New York housewife is facing criticism from netizens for something she perhaps never assumed would cause such a backlash.

Fans and critics alike of the ‘RHONY’ alum recently bashed Bethenny for calling her daughter her “best friend.” The outspoken reality star recently posted photos of herself with her 12-year-old daughter, Bryn Hoppy, who she shares with her ex-husband Jason Hoppy. The housewife shared pictures of the mother-daughter duo attending the Jingle Ball festivities hosted by iHeartRadio, where the pair are seen posing at the venue. While young Bryn donned a red slip dress and carried a cute heart-shaped clutch, her famous mother wore a head-to-toe leather outfit. But what provoked the ire of Bethenny’s fans was the star’s label for her daughter.

Bethenny captioned her post, “My date to #jingleball is my girl and MY BEST FRIEND in the whole world. I never have a spring in my step like when I’m with my favorite date, the Peanut. Thanks to my glam team & Taylor for helping me look & feel my best… I’m lucky to have caring supportive people in my life! Thanks to @iheartradio for being the best partners letting me “jingle” in my own way! #Rewives is #1 in TV & top 20 in ALL podcasts. Thank YOU so much! Let haters be motivators & surround yourself with those who let you be YOU!!! XO Happy Holidays!🎄❤️Jingle ball. Jingle ball. Jingle ball all the way.” As the reality star stated that Bryn was her “best friend in the whole world,” several netizens found that to be “irresponsible parenting” on Bethenny’s behalf.

A netizen took to the ‘RHONY’ alum’s comment section on Instagram and commented, “Please don’t be her best friend.....be her mom ...” While another agreed and added, “telling a child that they are your best friend is alot of pressure.” One noted that children require a parent to act like a parent and not a “best friend” and wrote, “I don’t think your children are looking for another best friend. They want a parent, someone who disciplines them and someone they can look up to.” Another chimed in, “She is your daughter, which is more precious and special than a best friend. It’s also a huge amount of pressure to put on her.”

A social media user also wrote, “As a mother it has always been weird to me when another mother says their child is their best friend. I love my kids more than anything... bestfriend never.... they are kids and there should always be a line between parent and child. Just my opinion.” Another also accused the reality star of allegedly "projecting" on her daughter, writing, "Your daughter needs a normal childhood with best friends her own age. You are projecting your neediness & insecurities on to her. You even have her dressing like you with expensive pocketbooks, inappropriate for a kid her age."
