A deepfake video of Iwona Wieczorek, a Polish woman who went missing over a decade ago after leaving a disco in the early hours of the morning, has caused an uproar on social media. The video, which is one minute long and was posted on TikTok, features the missing woman.

The disappearance of Wieczorek had a significant impact on Poland, as she was last seen on CCTV near her parents' residence after a night of clubbing with friends in the seaside resort of Sopot. In the deepfake video, the AI-generated woman, looking directly at the camera, starts the clip by saying in Polish, "You do not recognize me? I am Iwona Wieczorek. Today I will tell you my story."

'I never made it home'

In the video, the woman says, "In July 2010, together with a few friends, we decided to go to a party at the Dream Club in Sopot. I didn't have a good time last night. I had an argument with my friends. Around 2:50 I left the club and went to the seaside boulevards. I was going home. However, I never made it home because I disappeared in unexplained circumstances."

'Why would anyone make fun of a human tragedy?'

The video concludes with the woman urging internet users to share their theories about her disappearance and what might have happened to her. Wieczorek's distraught mother said, "Why would anyone make fun of a human tragedy?! Why is she playing with my daughter's image and family tragedy," as per Daily Mail.

'Disgusting and cruel'

Meanwhile, viewers have slammed the video for being cruel, with one saying, "A disgusting and cruel treatment of the image of the missing woman and another blow to her mother." Another said, "Extreme idiocy to come up with something like that!" "Anyway, what is the purpose of someone inventing such sick things and using her picture?? Is it supposed to make her loved ones happy??" asked another. "I wouldn't want to watch this being her mom," said a fourth.
