Diane McBain had 'solid' friendship with Elvis Presley, rejected Aaron Spelling’s marriage proposal
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Elvis Presley's co-star in 1966's 'Spinout' Diane McBain died on Wednesday, December 21, after a long battle with liver cancer, as explained by her writing partner Michael Gregg Michaud. McBain started out as a model before getting signed by WarnerBros, for seven years. In the latter part of her career, she became an author and wrote three books. In the initial years of her career, she was the go-to Hollywood girl. As she was close to Elvis, she also rejected a marriage proposal from producer Aaron Spelling.
Elvis made headlines this year as a new biopic on the singer hit theatres in June. In a conversation with Boomer Magazine, the 81-year-old actress reflected on her friendship with the rock 'n' roll singer. She said, "Women have asked me many times what it was like to kiss Elvis, and I tell them it was just as wonderful as you would imagine! He was charming and a lovely person to work with. He didn’t come on to me, which I appreciated because so many did throughout my career." This year when Elvis made headlines once again, McBain sat down to remember her friendship with the singer saying how they both "exchange books on set," and "have conversations all the time about being spiritual."

In a recent conversation with Fox News, the actress-turned-author said, "I loved Elvis. He was wonderful. He was in good shape at that time. I remember him being tall, slender and so beautiful." She recalled how the heartthrob had several affairs but was not interested in her as "he just liked brunettes" and she was a blonde. She continued, "He was a spiritual guy, and he loved to read anything about being spiritual. He wasn’t so much religious, but spiritual. And I, too, was fascinated by those things. So we bonded over that." Summing it up, McBain quipped, "It was a good relationship, very solid. I just thought he was so terrific."
Diane McBain rejected Aaron Spelling's marriage proposal
McBain recalled how Aaron Spelling, a well-known film producer at the time, called her father to ask her hand in marriage. She told Fox, "Yes, he asked for my hand in marriage. How about that? It was the first time that ever happened to me. I think it was the last too. I don’t think my dad ever got any more requests. But I think what my dad said, at least based on what he reported to me was, "She can make her own decisions." McBain explained how she adored Aaron and how she never went out of work even after the contract with WarnerBros was exhausted.
She continued, "I adored Aaron. He was such a wonderful, sweet man. We dated for quite a bit. But when it came to getting married, I just couldn’t see myself married to him. It just didn’t fit my idea at all about the kind of person I wanted to be married to. He was a dear, sweet man. I adored him. I would never say anything bad about him because he was always good to me. But I just wasn’t ready for something like that. Even after we broke up, he was still very good to me. He always hired me for his productions. I never had to worry for a long time after Warner Bros because of him. He was that good to me. He was a very special person in my life." McBain was also known for playing the titular role in the 1961 motion picture 'Claudelle Inglish', the 1961 movie 'Parrish', and on nine episodes of '77 Sunset Strip' from 1959 to 1963.
