HBO's 'Industry' Episode 2: Will Yasmin cheat on her boyfriend with Robert? Flirtatious relationship is risque
The first that we see of Yasmin in HBO's 'Industry', we realized very quickly that the girl from affluent background came with a disadvantage and that was to be treated as if she were a princess, one who wasn't fit for the job of sales and finance.
In keeping with this, when Yasmin joined Pierpoint, her senior at work and her immediate boss ended up treating her as nothing but a salad girl and the frustration at having nothing to do as she watched her peers, especially Harper, race forward with her senior Eric Tao's help and support. This frustration seems to spill over into her personal life as we meet her and her boyfriend in the second episode of the show, and the two of them are clearly unhappy.
Sex is one of the many ways that young people bury their frustrations in and, twice, Yasmin is rejected by her boyfriend. No. We are not saying that rejection is wrong, however, this is important to note as it influences Yasmin's decision. She decides to flirt with her colleague at work Robert Spearing who, earlier in the show was called a "snack" by Harper.
Of course, at that time, Yasmin had seemed uninterested. Now, things have changed and the two of them flirt -- at the gym, at work, and on texts. After a taxing work dinner event where Yasmin's peers get a first-row ticket to the way her boss treats her at work and otherwise, she is upset. Sure, Harper helped her by standing up for her. However, that isn't of any help in Yasmin's head. All of this, instead pushes her to feel some form of excitement by pushing the line between her and Robert.
That is why, she hints at spending the night with him after the dinner, only to leave Robert hanging. That night, she goes home to see that her boyfriend is raging a hard-on, ready to go down on her; and Yasmin enjoys it. Just not enough to let her boyfriend's previous rejection go. So to compensate for how she felt degraded by his rejection, she decides to degrade him by sharing an intimate moment between her and her boyfriend with Robert.
She shares a picture of her boyfriend going down on her and she feels excited by this. This is risque and this is also what gives Yasmin an out while her life is otherwise suffocating. Her mother, who is unhappy with everything that Yasmin does, adds to her silent rebellion. However, it is unclear where things are headed between herself and Robert because he also naturally flirted with Harper at the dinner party.
Sure, that was more playful in comparison but it stills has us wondering, will Yasmin and Robert really go all the way or is this back and forth just a slow burn sexual haze that will never be realized in the face of the competition that they will face going forward at Pierpoint?
