'Indian Matchmaking' Season 2: Is Akshay cursed? Here's why a failed engagement might be the reason he can't find love
Nashik, India: There is nothing easy about finding love. While people might be in relationships, finding a partner that you're compatible with can be a struggle for some. But, 'Indian Matchmaking' proves that there is a solution, provided you have the cash to pay Sima Taparia to help you out. After Season 1 of the show, Sima Aunty, as she is popularly known, seems to have found herself helping more singles than ever. And while she goes all out with finding her clients 'the one', she makes it plenty clear from the start -- nothing is guaranteed and the process is not a quick one.
Sima doesn't hold back when it comes to the nitty-gritty details. She's quick to dash down expectations and often warns clients that their lists are of no use. She does keep it pretty practical and insists that clients don't make up their minds on the first date itself and that it's important to go out a few times before they make a choice. Some of her methods do take in count religion and religious practices too, seeing that she leaves no stone unturned in her quest to help others find love.
For Akshay, who runs a poultry business in Nashik, his location seems to be the biggest issue when it comes to love (or so he thinks). Akshay noted that it was hard to find people to date in Nashik itself, which is an agricultural town that is a few hours away from Mumbai city. When it comes to women he's met in Mumbai, not many of them are willing to make the move to Nashik. For Sima, the task was to find someone who would be willing to make that change. She set Akshay up on a date with Devika, a designer from Mumbai who was open to the idea of moving. Unfortunately, their date was as uncomfortable as it could get, with the couple talking about sustainable living, only for Akshay to declare that he'd plant 1000 trees to make up for the one straw he used. He informed Sima that there was no spark between the two, ending the courtship before it could even begin.
However, Sima seemed to think there was more to the situation and had her face reader, Janardhan Dhurbe advise her on how to proceed. Dhurbe noted that Akshay had a 'viva bandhan dosha' or a curse on him which was the root of his issues. When brought to Akshay's attention, he didn't particularly believe in it, but he did open up about a failed engagement. He explained that when he was studying in the USA, he met someone and the two were ready to get married. However, his then partner's parents were not thrilled with the idea of her moving to Nashik and leaving her well-paying job, even though she was okay with the idea. Akshay admitted to not fighting hard enough back then and letting the relationship go. But now, to reverse the effect of the curse, he carried out a puja, in the hope that he would find someone and settle down.
For now, it looks like fans will have to wait for Season 3 to know if Akshay is curse free or not. 'Indian Matchmaking' Season 2 is available for streaming on Netflix.
