Spoilers for 'In the Dark' Season 2 Episode 10 'The Last Dance'

This week's episode of 'In the Dark' on The CW had some major developments. While earlier episodes of the season hinted that some big change was to come, we never would have expected what was finally delivered.

After Dean Riley's (Rich Sommer) efforts to get Murphy Mason (Perry Mattfeld) confess while having Max Parrish (Casey Deidrick) sport a wire, Dean gets fired by the police chief. Now inching closer to desperation, Dean goes to Chicago crime boss Nia Bailey (Nicki Micheaux) and tells her that Murphy is planning to double-cross with her.

Now with both the cops and Nia's people on their backs, Murphy, Felix (Morgan Krantz) and Max scramble to move the drugs from Guiding Hope. In their desperation, they chose Guiding Hope receptionist Ben (Chris Perfetti) to move the drugs while they served as a distraction. This was clearly a bad idea because Ben is a drug addict, who also happens to be selfish and unreliable.

As the viewers may have predicted, Ben hijacks the drugs, but before he can tell Murphy and the others where they are, he overdoses and dies. This means that when Nia gets to Murphy, the latter has nothing to give her. Enraged about the betrayal and the drugs going missing, Nia sets out to kill Murphy but in a twist we did not see coming, Jess Damon (Brooke Markham) returned and fired two shots into Nia's back, presumably killing her.

Fans were shocked at the turn of events in this week's episode. One fan wrote, "#InTheDark WHOA!!! NOBODY SAW THAT COMING.... NOBODY!!!!" Another tweeted, "DING DONG THE BITCH IS DEAD THE BITCH IS DEAD THE BITCH IS DEAD. DING DONG THE BITCH IS DEAD. NIA. IS. DEAD. YASSSSS JESSSSSS!!!!"

A fan tweeted, "Sayonara Nia! She also had that coming! Jess tha badass saves the day! Now Dean needs to get his!!!" Another wrote, "Omg I really thought Murphy was going to die but thank god Jess saved her life Farewell Nia #InTheDark," while another tweeted, "The irony that Jess went through all that to save Nia and now she's the one who took her out. #InTheDark."

Fans also noted how the drama showed cops unfairly stopping people on the road. A fan tweeted, "Gene broke their tail light to justify pulling them over. #InTheDark cannot be more timely as we are having a nationwide discussion about how law enforcement abuses power. Dean is the poster child for those "bad apples" and Gene is how good police learn bad #InTheDark."

Another tweeted, "I have a tendency of waxing poetic, and I have to say that #InTheDark is giving us a thoughtful, powerful l yet disturbing look at unchecked police power and authority and how it affects POC, women, and the poor."

'In the Dark' airs on Thursday nights at 9/8c on The CW.
