Ilhan Omar's ex-husband marries nurse who worked on congresswoman's campaign just a month after divorce
Congresswoman Ilhan Omar's former husband, Ahmed Hirsi, has reportedly remarried just 37 days after she divorced him, reports state. Hirsi, the father of the Minnesota lawmaker's three children, married Ladan Ahmed, a pediatric nurse, who had worked on Omar's election campaign, according to the Daily Mail.
"She's as Somali as they come," a leader of the large Somali community in the Minneapolis area said about Ahmed's new wife. The outlet also reported that the couple is now on their honeymoon in Saudi Arabia and made a pilgrimage to Mecca.
The Somali community leader also added that the marriage was possibly held in Somalia to avoid publicity. Reports state that the marriage is considered a "faith-based" union and is not legally binding in the United States.
Omar reportedly congratulated the couple after their marriage by sharing a picture of them on her Instagram story. "Mash Allah. Hambalyo boowe. Congratulations, may Allah accept your umrah and bless your union," she wrote.
Hirsi married Ahmed on December 12, over a month after his final divorce from Omar was granted on November 5. The former couple's divorce came amid allegations that the Minnesota lawmaker had an affair with DC-based political consultant Tim Mynett. Omar filed for the split in October in Minnesota.
The New York Post, in October, reported their source — a close friend of the estranged couple — as saying that Hirsi was determined to officially separate from the Minnesota Representative after it was revealed in a bombshell court filing that Omar allegedly had an affair with Mynett.
The revelation was made after Mynett's wife Beth Flaherty filed for divorce citing his affair with Omar. Flaherty, in his complaint, pointed out that Omar had given over $369,000 in payments to Mynett since she hired his firm in August 2018.
