The internet witnessed a slew of conspiracy theories about the victims and the suspect after the heinous murders, but police waited until Kohberger's arrest to release some of the crucial details about the case. Some vital information was made public after Kobherger's first court appearance.

Who was the 'Golden State Killer'?

The infamous "Golden State Killer" was responsible for serial rapes and murders across California in the 1970s and 1980s, but it took decades for a suspect to be identified. Joseph DeAngelo was arrested in 2018. The 74-year-old former cop pleaded guilty to 13 counts of first-degree murder this summer. In August, he was confronted in court by his victims and their families.

According to the FBI, the serial murderer would break into his victims' homes while they were sleeping by prying open a window or door. He would sometimes steal jewelry, identification, cash, and coins from the victims' homes, as reported by Goodmorning America.

Did Kohberger stalk the victims?

As per reports, police have not disclosed the dates, times, or specifics of the other 11 occasions when they believe Kohberger stalked the Idaho students and their college residence.  According to reports, a cell tower near the suspect's home at 1630 Northeast Valley Road in Pullman, Washington, picked up his phone location at 2.42 am on November 13. The phone was switched off after a few minutes and remained switched off during the murders. In addition to stalking, Kohberger is said to have messaged one of the female victims weeks before the slayings and sent more direct messages after she ignored him, as per reports.

Kohberger's arrest

Kohberger was apprehended at his parent's home in eastern Pennsylvania on December 30, more than 2,000 miles from Moscow. He was extradited to Idaho and transferred to the Latah County Jail late on January 4. As previously reported, the judge has issued a gag order in the case. Kohberger waived his right to an immediate preliminary hearing on January 12. The next hearing will now take place on June 26, as per reports.

No public link has been established between Kohberger and the murders, but it is known authorities retrieved Kohberger's DNA from the crime scene. In the weeks leading up to his arrest, cops apparently already had Kohberger on their radar and were tracking him down using various techniques.
