OPINION: How Trump campaign led by troll-in-chief himself is taking on Biden and Dems, with a little help from Fox

Efforts to spread misinformation through Twitter has been stemmed but the onslaught seems like a streamlined part of the campaign

President Donald Trump lashed out at House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Wednesday, September 2 over an exclusive Fox News report that she visited a San Francisco hair salon despite local ordinances keeping salons closed amid the pandemic. Fox also flashed images of the California congresswoman walking through the salon with wet hair and without a face covering. It was not clear where had Fox "obtained" the footage from but they spoke to salon owner Erica Kious who termed it a double standard.

"Crazy Nancy Pelosi is being decimated for having a beauty parlor opened, when all others are closed, and for not wearing a Mask — despite constantly lecturing everyone else," Trump tweeted. "We will almost certainly take back the House, and send Nancy packing!"

Another duet with Fox and Trump played out in the case of CNN's Chris Cuomo, who was heard talking to Michael Cohen in an audio recording obtained by 'Tucker Carlson Tonight'. In the leaked tapes that went viral, the CNN host bemoaned to Trump's former personal attorney that some reporters were allegedly investigating sexual misconduct claims from his time at ABC News. The leaked tape went viral and made headlines immediately, and the president was quick to ask the network to fire the anchor, who he has belittled by nicknaming him after the weakest Corleone brother in 'The Godfather'. Cuomo is one of the many talking heads at CNN who have been critical of the president over policies and style of functioning over the years.

"Will Fredo be fired by Fake News @CNN? He speaks with great disrespect about women, and it will only get worse," Trump tweeted. "Fredo's Ratings are bad, so this is the time. Always terrible to speak to sleazebags, especially when you are being recorded. CNN has no choice, Fredo must go!" The "sleazebag" was probably referring to Cohen, who weighed in saying the only people in possession of that audiotape besides himself were Trump and the Department of Justice. He also said in his tweet that he didn’t authorize Fox News to run it.

Who gave the tapes to 'The Tucker Carlson' is a no brainer; but in an election year that’s primarily playing out online, the emerging GOP offensive seems to discredit the opposition, whether politicians or media, and go after main target Biden using the might of Trump campaign, Fox and social media.

The central plank has been to question the former vice president's mental acuity and mislead about his stance on law and order. Trump and Fox have been hammering the point pretty much on a daily basis, but attempts to trigger it to virality on social media has not been met with much success, though not from lack of trying.

Biden was attacked thrice within a space of 24 hours with Twitter flagging three tweets from GOP lawmakers and the Trump campaign for spreading misinformation. Rep Steve Scalise (R-La.), White House social media director Dan Scavino, and the Trump campaign were flagged for spreading “manipulated media” in messages attacking Biden. While one manipulated video made it appear as if Biden had fallen asleep during an interview, the two other attacked Biden over defunding the police. The Trump campaign's video shows Biden saying, “You won't be safe in Joe Biden's America” and it was manipulated to remove the part showing him quoting Trump and Vice President Mike Pence.

After it was called out, the Trump campaign said the manipulated video was just a "joke". Expect Trump to make many more of this before November 3.
