Nikki Haley shows world leaders don't stand so tall

Compared to Nikki Haley's height, several world leaders stand at the average height and do not stand too tall to tower over their opponents.

Stephen Harper, former Prime Minister of Canada, breaks the 6-foot mark. Five of the world's leaders are under 5 ft 6 in.

Among other leaders, Russia's little big man, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Federation Security Council Dmitry Medvedev, comes in last at only 5 ft 2 in (1.87 m/157 cm).

Former Prime Minister of Japan Yasuo Fukuda is only 5 ft 6 in, and Germany's former female Chancellor Angela Merkel measures in at only 5 ft 5 in (1.65 m/165 cm).

Why are American voters obsessed with leaders’ heights?

As per reports, presidents are growing taller in comparison to normal Americans; the last president to be shorter than the average was William McKinley, who was elected in 1896.

Being short might also harm a presidential candidate's chances.

Psychologists at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands published a paper in 2013 that examined the results of American presidential elections dating back to 1789.

They discovered that taller candidates won more votes than shorter candidates nearly two-thirds of the time.

And the taller the candidates are in comparison to their opponents, the wider the average margin of victory.

Winners of second-term presidential elections have been two inches taller than losers on average. The authors suggest that height may explain up to 15% of the variation in election results.
