Texas dad whose 9-month-old baby suffocated to death while he sexually assaulted her charged with capital murder

HOUSTON, TEXAS: A Texas man was arrested on Monday, around a week after he allegedly killed his daughter, 9 months old, while he was sexually assaulting her. 

The man, Luis Luna, 23, is facing capital murder charges in connection with the death of his child. The Harris County Sheriff's deputies had gone to an apartment complex a little after midnight on August 24, after receiving reports that there was an unresponsive infant, Fox News reports. 

By the time the officers arrived, emergency medical workers were already at the apartment treating the infant, Savayah Mason. The infant was later pronounced dead at the hospital. A news release from the sheriff's office stated that a Harris County Institute of Forensics autopsy found that the child had been sexually assaulted and had died due to asphyxiation during the attack. 

The police had then launched an investigation and interviewed Luna. On Monday, August 31, the police charged Luna with capital murder with regard to his daughter's death. Sheriff Ed Gonzalez took to Twitter to share, "Heartbreaking. The worst type of cases. May this little angel rest in peace."

Luna was being held at the Harris County Jail and had been due in court on Tuesday. 

Social media users have been left outrage at the heinous crime and took to commenting on the same. One such user shared on Twitter, "This is the reason I believe that people should need to get a license, in order to have children. Not everybody is mentally or financially capable to be a parent."

Another user commented and wrote, "If there is DNA Proof I am all for Jail House Justice. This is not a Father, not is he a man. He is the worst monster that the horror genre could have made up. You have the right to die, not quick, not painless, may you suffer for several lifetimes."

"This is a sick tragedy that should put this evil b*stard in jail. He will receive his punishment," commented yet another social media user. An outraged Twitter user who echoed the same sentiments added, "There are no words for how horrible that is, how could anyone do that to a child, especially their own child? Horrifying."

The killing of the infant comes just weeks after a Texas couple, Roland Grabowski, 42, and Donna Grabowski, 41, shared with investigators that they had found their son, Micah, 3 weeks old dead in his bed on July 29. However, authorities had found the body of the child in a tar bucket in their shed. 

Sheriff Jim Skinner said that the couple repeatedly lied about what had happened to their son Micah. While speaking to WFAA-TV, Skinner said, "It's tragic and it's sad enough any time we have the death of an infant. But it's absolutely reprehensible when you lie and deceive investigators as to the location of the body."

The couple was charged with evidence tampering and abuse of a corpse after the authorities found their infant dead. The couple had also refused to cooperate with the authorities who were looking into the death of the infant.
