LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'House of the Dragon' Season 2, Episode 4 aired on HBO on July 7, 2024. The exhilarating episode featured a huge battle that saw the end of a popular character in Rhaenys Targaryen (Eve Best) and her beautiful dragon Meleys who died at the hands of Aemond Targaryen (Ewan Mitchell) and his dragon Vhagar.

A moment before the death of Rhaenys and Meleys, we saw Meleys carry a melancholic look on her face before she was torn into pieces by Vhagar. As the Targaryen family is fighting conflict within itself, it is also dragons who have had to choose sides and obey their masters.

These dragons have fought together for ages, mounted on different Kings and Queens and as it is for the humans, it is difficult for the dragons to fight each other after being friends for so long.

Fans decode Meleys' reaction before her death

'House of the Dragon' fans are heavily invested in the show and are very well-versed in the history of the Seven Kingdoms. A fan took to X to point out the history between Vhagar and Meleys and shared one of the final moments of Meleys and Rhaenys captioning the post "do you think meleys is confused why baelon’s dragon would do such a thing to her".

Meleys reaction comes from the history of dragons as Vhagar was the dragon ridden by Baelon Targaryen and Meleys was the dragon ridden by his wife Alyssa Targaryen. They would have gone on many voyages together and to see Meleys die this way sums up how much the dragons have had to suffer at the hands of the Targaryen conflict.

In the comments, another fan pointed out their history by writing "or laena's dragon..." pointing to the more recent history between the two dragons. Vhagar was later ridden by Laena Velaryon (Nanna Blondell) while Meleys was claimed by Rhaenys Targaryen, her mother.

Similar to this war between the two dragons, 'House of the Dragon' will have more dragon fights that might be as emotional if not more.

Like Meleys and Vhagar, many dragon wars are expected to take place in 'House of the Dragon'. They are expected to be spread across the seasons.

One of the major battles that will take place will be The Battle Above The Gods Eye where Vhagar and Caraxes will kill each other while fighting. Vhagar and Caraxes also share a history as they were ridden together by Laena and Daemon when they were married.

Sunfyre and Moondancer will go head-to-head with Aegon II Targaryen (Tom Glynn-Carney) and Baela Targaryen (Bethany Antonia) going up against each other. Sunfyre wins the duel and kills Moondancer.

Seasmoke, Vermithor, and Tessarion fight each other in the Second Battle of Tumbleton which kills all three of those dragons in a fierce three-way battle.
