Texas babysitter says she killed 1-year-old girl by squeezing her 'until her bones popped' out of frustration
ROCKDALE, TEXAS: A babysitter allegedly killed a baby girl by squeezing her “until she felt her bones begin to pop and crush.”
A recent probable cause affidavit noted how Shayla Boniello told police she punched, shook, slapped, and squeezed the toddler until she was motionless, KCENTV reports.
Little Patricia Ann "Annie" Rader tragically succumbed to her injuries on December 3, 2018, shortly after authorities responded to a Texas residence following a report that the baby was not breathing. She was only 20 months old at the time.
According to the affidavit, Annie had sustained extensive injuries that included bruises, scratches and several knots on her arms, head, neck, legs, and abdomen. Responding officers tried their best to revive the toddler, but in vain.
Now, Boniello faces a charge for the capital murder of Annie.
Milam County District Attorney Bill Torrey revealed in a statement that a judge had increased the babysitter's bail to $3 million on Tuesday owing to the capital murder charge.
During an interrogation with authorities the same day the little girl died, Boniello enacted the horrific assault—which she claimed lasted for around three minutes—on a stuffed animal,
The affidavit revealed that she told police her actions had stemmed from anger and frustration.
What's more? Boniello also faces an endangerment charge after she confessed to smoking marijuana while little Annie was in the house. This came up after authorities reportedly found marijuana paraphernalia beside the bed where the baby was found.
Around the time of Boniello's arrest, prosecutors announced they would seek the death penalty owing to the horrific nature of the abuse.
Officials told The Eagle that Annie was living with her grandfather, who was her primary caretaker and guardian, at the residence.
Boniello moved to Rockdale to live with the grandfather after meeting him earlier in the year over a website.
At the time of Annie's death, Boniello was babysitting her while the grandfather, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, was at work.
