Bill Murray's upcoming project, which has been halted due to an inquiry into his alleged "inappropriate behavior," is taking on a darker tone in the wake of a resurfaced on-set horror story that had Hollywood buzzing for decades.

After the actor reportedly tossed a glass ashtray at co-star Richard Dreyfuss and threatened to "throw" the film's producer "across a parking lot," Disney was allegedly compelled to employ bodyguards to safeguard the actors and crew of 1991's 'What About Bob?' Dreyfuss' son, Ben, made the shocking claim on late Thursday, 21 April, just hours after Murray's current film, 'Being Mortal,' was halted due to a complaint about his behavior. Murray, who portrays a Zen like calm in his public appearances, has been accused of physically clashing with co-stars on multiple sets, head-butting, and "inexcusable and unacceptable" language.

Amidst 'Being Mortal' scandal, here are the other times Bill Murray caused trouble on set

Murray is one of America's most popular entertainers, but he has a history of creating enemies on the sets of his television and film ventures. Following Murray's reported violent outburst this week, Ben, 35, took to Twitter to explain that professional muscle had to be dispatched to the Virginia set of the cult movie 'What About Bob?'. “Everyone walked off the production and flew back to LA and it only resumed after Disney hired some bodyguards to physically separate my dad and Bill Murray in between takes,” Ben said. “I was like 5 at the time and these are some of my fondest and earliest memories,” he further claimed. “He put his face next to me, nose-to-nose, and he screamed at the top of his lungs, ‘Everyone hates you! You are tolerated!'" Dreyfuss disclosed in 2009.

Ben stated, “Murray had a meltdown during ‘What About Bob?’ because he wanted an extra day off and Laura Ziskin said no [so he] ripped her glasses off her face and my dad complained about his behavior.” Ziskin addressed the issue in The Los Angeles Times in 2003, “Bill … threatened to throw me across the parking lot and then broke my sunglasses and threw them across the parking lot.” The 'Ghostbusters' celeb and Ziskin never worked again. Ziskin died at 61 after she was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Murray's latest film, 'Being Mortal', was reportedly suspended after a complaint was reportedly filed against the actor, alleging "inappropriate behavior." Ben Dreyfuss' tweets were posted on Thursday evening, just hours after news broke that Murray's latest film, 'Being Mortal' had been suspended. Being Mortal,' created by comedian Aziz Ansari, who is also directing and starring in the film, began principal filming last month. The lawsuit does not include Ansari, who has been embroiled in his own scandal when a date wrote a popular 2018 essay detailing a questionably consensual sexual experience she had with him.

Murray notably feuded with co-star Lucy Liu during the making of 'Charlie's Angels' in 2000, with Liu alleging that Murray began to "hurl insults" at her, using "inexcusable and reprehensible" language. Murray told the Times of London in 2009, “Look, I will dismiss you completely if you are unprofessional and working with me.”

McG, the director of 'Charlie's Angels', also alleged that Murray headbutted him on the set of the action film. "Square in the head,” McG informed the Guardian in May 2009. “An inch later and my nose would have been obliterated.” However, Murray denied the allegations. Meanwhile, on the set of 'Saturday Night Live', Murray memorably got into a violent argument with comedian Chevy Chase in 1978. The Book 'Live From New York: An Uncensored History of Saturday Night Live,'  stated it started from two trading insults. Murray bashed Chase and asked to go have sex with Jacqueline Carlin, Chase’s then said that Murray's face looks “like something Neil Armstrong landed on.”

It rapidly developed into a physical brawl, which was observed by the cast members Jane Curtin, Laraine Newman, and Gilda Radne. During an interview on 'Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen' in June 2021, Newman characterized the battle as “very sad and painful and awful.”

Murray is also believed to have had a violent incident on the set of 1993's 'Groundhog Day with longtime buddy and director Harold Ramis. During a violent disagreement, Ramis allegedly grabbed Murray by the shirt collar and hurled him against a wall. According to Ramis' daughter, Violet Ramis Stiel, in her 2018 book 'Ghostbuster's Daughter: Life With My Dad', Harold Ramis said Murray wouldn't speak to his old pal for over 20 years. "Heartbroken, confused, and yet unsurprised by the rejection,” she added, her father "tried not to take it personally." Murray was able to reconcile with Ramis just before his death in February 2014.

Meanwhile, Murray "hurt" veteran Angelica Huston by failing to invite her to a party while filming Wes Anderson's  'The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou'.

“The first week I was there [filming in Italy], we were all in this little hotel, and he invited the entire cast to go and have dinner, except me,” Huston informed Vulture in May 2019. “I was really hurt,” she continued. “And then I think we met again in Florence, because that movie was shot all over Italy, and we were doing a scene at Gore Vidal’s house in Ravello, and [Murray] said, "Hey, how’ve you been? I missed you." I said, "You’re full of s–t. You didn’t miss me.’"He looked all confused for a moment. Murray and Huston eventually reconciled, with the 'Lost in Translation' actor attending Huston's spouse Robert Graham's funeral in 2008.
