Another day, another home, another unique challenge. In the latest episode of '100 Day Dream Home', Brian and Mika Kleinschmidt set out to build a home for a family that hadn't had a space to call their home for roughly 10 years! As per the HGTV Summary – "A family of four has lived in six homes over the past ten years while trying to find their perfect fit. Brian and Mika help them build a home that they think is just right, but when their plans fall through, they'll have to double down to not disappoint."

Having lived in six homes over the past 10 years has left Jacklyn with a very clear idea of what she wants in and from her new home. Her taste was very specific – she was looking for a modern farmhouse look, which made use of space smartly, seeing that the couple has two kids and a dog. This proved to be a great help for Mika Kleinschmidt, seeing that she often has to help people realize their vision and find their aesthetic. With their budget in place and their dream home envisioned, it was time for the Kleinschmidts to bring this vision to life. Seeing that the family was currently living with their friends for roughly 2 months, the pressure was definitely on to complete their home on time.

Where were Jacklyn and Guy staying before their dream home?

At the start of the episode, Jacklyn mentions that over the past 10 years, they've stayed in a total of 7 houses. She also mentioned that her youngest son is 9 years old, implying that they've been shifting and moving around ever since he was a baby. While all this shifting has not been easy on the family, there has been one plus side to it all, they've seen enough places to know exactly what they need. Jacklyn makes it plenty clear that wasted spaces are a big no-no for her. She also wanted a master bedroom and bathroom that could the couple some privacy and asked for a home office, so that she didn't have to work out of her bedroom.

Whereas Guy was hoping the Kleinschmidts could save a dilapidated dock that was already on the property. While the couple was in-sync for the most part, Guy always joked about how every decision they made required consultation with 'Mr Budget' - a persona of Guy's that approves all the family spends.

The Kleinschmidts saved the couple A LOT of money

The couple purchased their stunning plot for $65,000 dollars, keeping in mind the view and the location, it was quite a steal. They allotted $400,000 dollars for the construction of the same, including the furnishing. This put them at a grand total of $465,000. But, seeing that the plot already had a septic tank and well, the Kleinschmidt's were able to save the couple roughly $10,000. This brought down the total cost of the build to $390,000. Brian did try to save the existing dock, as per the couple's request, but seeing that it was beyond repair and the plot looked much better without it, they decided to get rid of it altogether. Instead, they gave the family their very own 'mud room' which would act as an offloading dock for the couple's son and dog, as opposed to getting the house dirty. With $6,000 from the budget going towards this special project, it was definitely one of the more unique features of the home.
