When Ashley saved the 57-year-old man

The horrific incident took place in April 2022 when Ashley had to put her own life in danger and hoist the man off the tracks after the man collapsed and fell on the train track. In the harrowing video of the miraculous escape, the commuter, and another woman jumped on the track and tried to save the man as a train screeched toward them. The station personnel flashed red flags before the train slammed on its brakes.

The two gratefully managed to survive the ordeal and the elderly man was rushed to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital with injuries to his head and wrist. However, he was later arrested for breaching an apprehended violence order. At that time, transport minister David Elliot applauded the train staff for their heroic efforts but scolded the man while warning him to be safer around trains.

'A true heroine'

"It was quite clear he was unsteady on his feet and that really isn't an excuse," he said "If you are going to be using public transport … there is a risk associated with being around this sort of heavy machinery." Mr. Elliot said there would be plenty of places around the world where staff would not have put their lives at risk to save the man.

"When I saw that video I was horrified that someone would be so blatantly ignorant about the situation they are in," the minister said. "I also was extremely proud of those staff members who immediately responded."

Following Ashley’s tragic death, many paid moving tributes to her saying “It’s a cruel hard life for many. Keep that smile on your face Billy…it shields a good deal of pain. Love you, brother.” Another one said “Sorry for your sad news…a true Heroine” while the third said, “It was a harrowing experience”.
