Henry Cavill admits to reducing water intake to show off buff body in shirtless scenes for 'The Witcher'
The entertainment industry's requirement of actors to look a certain way is not new. Many celebrities have admitted the extreme lengths they go to to look good and 'Man of Steel' actor Henry Cavill has just joined them. During his appearance on 'The Graham Norton Show,' the actor gave the audience a glimpse of his grueling regimen.
Cavill plays the role of Geralt of Rivia in Netflix's recently released 'The Witcher'. The image of Cavill, shirtless in a bathtub has become quite popular on social media but users may not be thrilled to know what he does to make sure of his toned appearance in those scenes.
The 36-year-old actor spoke about his preparation for his role. He told the host, Graham Norton, that he had to undergo a lot of training in order to "look a certain way" and to keep up with the physical side of the job.
Cavill told Norton that it was a multi-day process that gradually reduced his allotted drinks, then completely disallowing any water the day before and the day of filming the shirtless sequences. Cavill also added that the process did not involve banning drinks completely. The actor admitted that this was the "worst part" of it, saying, "Like, diet is difficult, and you’re hungry, but when you are dehydrating for three days, you get to the point on the last day where you can smell water nearby."
Cavill then went on to tell Norton that reducing his liquid intake caused his skin to become "really thin", causing it to sit tightly on the muscles and make them look more prominent. However, Cavill has said that the process has the effect of making one "the most miserable person on the planet". If so, Cavill's grunts while playing Geralt could, in fact, be a result of his dehydrating himself.
Experts have warned against limiting one's water intake as it can have adverse effects on the body especially one's blood pressure and kidney function.
All episodes of Season 1 of 'The Witcher' are now streaming on Netflix.
