Hend Bustami: Woman who claimed she was arrested for being 'too good-looking’ charged with killing her mom
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA: A woman from Las Vegas, who claimed weeks ago that she had been detained by police because she was too “good-looking”, is now being charged with killing her mother. The police started seeking Hend Bustami, 28, after her 62-year-old mother was found dead in a Las Vegas residence early on Wednesday, October 26. Her entire body was covered in "deep lacerations" as per the police.
While the motivation for the murder continues to remain a mystery, the police arrested Bustami at around 5 am on October 27 in Barstow, California. In August, she gained notoriety when she attempted to avoid paying a tab at a Chili's restaurant and was caught at the Harry Reid Airport in Las Vegas. Bustami, who was apparently belligerently intoxicated, claimed “she was being harassed because cops [had] never seen anyone as pretty as her,” while being detained.

Bustami's mother was found inside a home on June Flower Drive shortly after 2:30 am on Wednesday with "multiple deep lacerations." Lieutenant Dave Valenta of the Las Vegas Metro Police reported that a woman called 911 to report the death of her mother. “At approximately 2:30 in the morning, a 911 dispatcher received a phone call from a frantic female stating that her mother was dead,” Valenta said. “Then the line was disconnected.” In the call, Bustami was heard saying, “I think I killed my mommy,” according to a report from 8NewsNow. During the interrogation, it was found that Bustami used a shard of glass to strike her mother after getting into a heated quarrel.
The police were summoned to their house at least 12 times this year alone - seven times for "family disturbance" and one time for a suicide attempt, according to 8NewsNow. The family's house was the "loudest" on the street, a neighbor named Andres Moreno told the news channel. “Usually 10 pm or later, they would just be screaming in the backyard or they'd be fighting,” he said. “It was usually the older daughter and the mother that would get into it. Of course, shortly after screaming, police presence would be involved and things would get all, you know, settled down. Then a week later, it'd happen again.”
Bustami, he continued, was frequently observed behaving "strangely" about the neighborhood, including soliciting rides from random people, entering neighbors' unlocked garages, and dispersing her stuff outside. “She would come outside and literally spin in her driveway, singing songs or talking to herself in her driveway, or she’d just walk up and down the street muttering to herself,” Moreno told 8NewsNow. “I believe she had mental health issues and she did desperately need help and maybe chose not to get it. Or, you know, who am I to say, but there was obviously something going on with her.”
Who is Hend Bustami?
According to her LinkedIn profile, Bustami graduated from the University of Nevada–Las Vegas with a degree in hospitality administration and management. Additionally, she performs as a DJ under the moniker Afrodyte.
Bustami may face charges of open murder when she is extradited from California to Las Vegas, according to the police, though the severity of such charges has not yet been established. On August 31, Bustami was detained and charged with misbehavior at Harry Reid International Airport. After halting operations close to a security checkpoint, officers later discovered Bustami to be "belligerent," according to LVMPD, who got a report that she had skipped out on a tab at the airport's Chili's restaurant. Bustami allegedly called the officers "perverts," threatened to spit on them and said they were "trying to rape her because they never seen anyone as good-looking" while they were taking her into custody. For the incident-related charges, she was scheduled to appear in court on October 27.
