WASHINGTON, DC: President Joe Biden found himself in hot water after calling to "eliminate" Hamas while simultaneously advocating for a “path to a Palestinian state.”

The 80-year-old POTUS was speaking to CBS's '60 Minutes' in an interview that was shot on Thursday, October 12, when host Scott Pelley asked about the anticipated military attack on the Gaza Strip by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF).

Israel has been pounding Gaza with air strikes since October 11 and is now preparing a ground invasion of the Palestinian territory in response to Hamas' brutal weekend attack that killed more than 1400 citizens and left many more gravely injured.

“I think it’d be a big mistake,” Biden said when asked if he would support Israel occupying Gaza. “Look, what happened in Gaza, in my view, is Hamas and the extreme elements of Hamas don’t represent all the Palestinian people. And I think that it would be a mistake for Israel to occupy Gaza again,” he continued.

What did Joe Biden say about 'eliminating' Hamas?

In the latter part of the interview, Biden was directly questioned on whether Hamas needed to be eliminated in the wake of vicious attacks that ignited a new, all-out conflict in the Middle East.

“Yes, I do,” he said, adding, “But there needs to be a Palestinian authority. There needs to be a path to a Palestinian state," while warning Israeli troops not to occupy Gaza.

While calling for the end of Hamas, Biden also asserted that the Palestinians need a place in the Middle East. "But there needs to be a Palestinian authority. There needs to be a path to a Palestinian state," he continued, reiterating the long-standing US call for a two-state solution.

Journalist Scott Pelley also questioned Biden about whether he foresees US soldiers joining in the war.

"I don't think that's necessary. Israel has one of the finest fighting forces in the country. I guarantee we're gonna provide them everything they need,” POTUS replied.

Additionally, the president declared that he wanted aid to be sent to Gaza and that he was "confident" in Israel's capacity to mount a legitimate defense.

“There’s a standard that democratic institutions and countries go by. I’m confident that there’s gonna be an ability for the innocents in Gaza to be able to have access to medicine and food and water,” he said.

Internet slams Joe Biden for calling to 'eliminate' Hamas

President Biden’s claims have garnered immense social media attention, with users slamming for calling to eliminate Hamas.

“Was he aware of what has been happening in the region up till now, or was he just turning a blind eye?” one user said.

“He’s the weakest leader can imagine. You know he couldn’t competently give a two-hour speech like trump does all the time. He made the world unsafe and you know it,” a second user stated.

“Nothing new. I'd be more interested in what his plan is. like, actual steps,” the third asserted while the fourth user wrote “Why do they still let him speak? 🤦‍♂️”

“This guy isn’t qualified to drive a golf cart at this point. We need a leader that’s at least lucid,” another user said.
