Netflix’s ‘The Crown’ is being slammed for recreating Princess Diana’s tragic final moments in Paris before her fatal car crash in August 1997. The hate comes as the show, starring actress Elizabeth Debicki as Diana in the fifth season, faced criticism over its plot lines, with accusations of insensitivity after the recent death of the Queen. This led to a backlash from crew members who fear “a line has been crossed”, with many royal fans calling the move "disgraceful."

According to The Sun, a set source said, “To be going back to Paris and turning Diana’s final days and hours into a drama feels very uncomfortable. Finally, some of the crew members are pushing back on the ideas being tabled. The show always tried to present a fictional version of royal history with as much sensitivity as possible. But lately, as things get closer to the present day, it feels harder to strike that balance. With some of those moments still so fresh and upsetting, it feels as though a line is being crossed. Some production staff are now starting to speak up about their feelings.”

In response to the backlash, Netflix clarified, “The exact moment of the crash impact will not be shown.” Nevertheless, many fans bashed the show. One wrote, "Such a disgraceful thing to do! Clearly they don’t care about anyone’s mental health, especially the sons and just the money." Another commented, "The Crown is just that...drama. It has never claimed to be a fact based historical documentary." Someone else noted, "Yep not cool for william and harry to see that. The show actually stinks."

Continuing the criticism, a user wrote, "Time for a ban on this crap get netflix gone public must vote with the off switch." Another asked, "Despicable - her sons have feelings as do her sisters and brother. What’s wrong with these people? Ghouls all of them. The same people dramatising dahmer’s killing spree. Sickening."

Another user had some beef with how Charles was portrayed. They tweeted, "Latest lies in #TheCrownNetflix is that Prince Charles tried to persuade PM John Major in 1990s to force the Queen to abdicate. Mendacious nonsense. It's time the prog' trailers carried a truth health warning."
