Spoilers for 'Harley Quinn' Season 2 Episode 12 'Lovers' Quarrel'

Everyone has known, right from the start, that the romantic coupling of Harley Quinn (Kaley Cuoco) and Poison Ivy (Lake Bell) has been the endgame. With the show's increased focus on the healthy, supportive and genuinely loving relationship between Poison Ivy and Kite Man (Matt Oberg), however, an increasingly worrying question remained unanswered - just how badly is Kite Man's heart going to be broken?

After being convinced by the Joker (Alan Tudyk), of all people, to fight for her love, Harley decides that she can't wait any longer to let Ivy know that all Harley wants from life is for them to be together. The speech that Harley gives Ivy is everything that fans of the character could hope for. Harley admits to her own impulsive and reactive ways. She addresses Ivy's concern that Harley keeps bouncing from one thing to another by letting Ivy know that the reason Harley did all that is because she's never known what she's wanted, until now. All she wants is to be with Ivy - but before Ivy can respond to Harley's heartfelt request, Kite Man steps in and things take a turn for the worse.

The ever-naive Kite Man was knocked out, after having tried to undo Ivy's brainwashing by a kiss of true love. For once, his idea wasn't a bad one, because true love was exactly what Ivy needed to snap out of Doctor Psycho's (Tony Hale) mind control - it's just that it wasn't Kite Man's love that did the trick. It was Harley's kiss that managed to restore Ivy's mind long enough for Harley to slip her the device that would make her immune to Psycho's telepathy, saving the day and indeed the entire world.

When Kite Man regains consciousness, however, he believes that it was his kiss that got through to Ivy and for a moment, it seems like Ivy would let Kite Man believe that, sweeping her feelings for Harley underneath the rug and continuing with her plans to marry Kite Man. However, in one last act of petty villainy, Doctor Psycho broadcasts Harley and Ivy's passionate love affair on Themyscira for all of the world to see, robbing Ivy of the chance to make her choice of how, or if, to let Kite Man down easy.

Despite how much Harley and Poison are meant for each other, Kite Man deserved better. He has never had anything but have a genuine love for Ivy and despite Ivy's reservations, she did love him back. As this episode illustrates, Ivy's heart truly belongs to Harley, but to have Ivy's affair broadcasted so publically humiliates everyone involved. It sours what ought to have been a truly romantic gesture on Harley's part and it breaks the heart of a man who did nothing to deserve this.

It's a mess of hurt feelings for everyone involved. Kite Man gave his all to his relationship with Ivy, and Doctor Psycho stomped all over the poor man's heart. The shame of having been outed in the way Ivy was may put a permanent dampener on any hope there is for Ivy and Harley to be together, at least not without sorting through some very complicated, hurt feelings first.

Doctor Psycho may have tried to take over the world, but this is definitely the evilest thing he's done on the series so far.

The next episode of 'Harley Quinn' airs June 26, on DC Universe.
