'Hanna' Season 2 Episode 4: Will Clara betray her savior and get her locked up in Meadows with Sandy's help?
'Hanna' Season 2 Episode 4 begins with Hanna getting captured by John Carmichael's (Dermot Mulroney) team. He is one of the CIA agents who has been a part of UTRAX since the beginning, and he had also headed the operation without Marissa Weigler's knowledge after Erik Heller had resurfaced. The reason why Marissa had let Erik and Hanna leave at the end of season 1 was that she had learned that the one behind operation UTRAX had an ulterior motive. The only person who has full knowledge about The Meadows and all of its operations is Carmichael.
With Hanna is captured, Carmichael believes that now his UTRAX operation is complete. The original 30 members are finally together and now, they can begin to reap the rewards of training teenage spies. However, Hanna doesn't break. She doesn't cooperate and for Carmichael's operation to be a complete success, Hanna has to work with Carmichael. In an attempt to get her to cooperate, Carmichael invites Marissa over to mediate between them. She had continued to lie about being in touch with Hanna, however, Hanna is not aware of this.
So when they two do finally come face to face at The Meadows where Hanna is being held -- for a minute -- it seems like Hanna would break Marissa's cover. However, Marissa manages to signal Hanna and speaks in a coded manner, thereby managing to clarify the misunderstanding that had occurred between her and Hanna.
She also manages to find a way out for both Hanna and Clara (Clemency in UTRAX) and until then, both Marissa and Hanna continue to put up an act. Marissa had planned the getaway as well as she can and Hanna also manages to pass the message along to Clara. Despite feeling suspicious about Clara's intentions and if she really does want to be free, Hanna ends up letting Clara in on all plans. It is this trust that she has in Clara that ends up becoming a problem towards the end of the episode. Hanna and Clara are expected to be at one of the gates by 10 pm, however, that is past the curfew time. Clara is unsure about this plan and it also weighs heavily on her.
This is not something that she seems interested in, and it is the gratitude that she feels for Hanna that forces her to even contemplate the plan momentarily. However, one of the fellow trainees, Sandy, finds Clara behaving suspiciously. She gets Clara to confess to her and that is the first step of betrayal that we see in a series that follows. Clara is convinced by Sandy that they are doing this for Hanna's best because by the end of the episode, we see Clara lead Hanna away from the gate and into the dorms.
Meanwhile, Marissa, who waits for them at the gates is captured by Carmichael and his men. Hanna is not able to comprehend the situation completely except for the fact that her escape plan has failed severely. Her friend, the one person that she had tried to rescue, ended up betraying Hanna.
'Hanna' Season 2 premiered on July 3 and all episodes can be streamed on Amazon Prime Video.
