History of Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day
Grilled cheese sandwich is regarded as an indispensable part of American cuisine but not everyone is aware that grilled cheese recipes are mentioned in ancient Roman writings. Food historians assert that cooked bread and cheese have been a staple in numerous cultures since antiquity. The modern grilled cheese sandwich in the United States dates back to the 1920s.
Here are three grilled cheese sandwich recipes that you should try.
Classic Grilled Cheese Sandwich
Ingredients
2 large bread slices
Salted butter, as required
½ cup or 8 tablespoons of cheese, preferably shredded low-moisture mozzarella, and cheddar. Packaged cheese slices would also work, in which case, 4 slices worth
1 teaspoon chili flakes (optional)
Method
Toast two slices of bread on your frying pan over medium-low heat with butter on one side and the buttered side down. While the underside of the bread is toasting, spread cheese slices or shredded mozzarella and cheddar on the unbuttered side.
Sprinkle stew pieces over the cheddar to add a little kick to your sandwich. Put the two bread slices together after the underside has lightly browned. Add a little butter to the pan; however, the cheese should have completely melted and the bread should look browned and crispy on the outside to indicate that it is done.
Cheese Corn Sandwich
Ingredients
2 large bread slices
Salted butter, as required
¼ cup or 4 tablespoons, sweet corn kernels
½ cup or 8 tablespoons of cheese, preferably shredded low-moisture mozzarella, and cheddar. Packaged cheese slices would also work, in which case, 4 slices worth
1 teaspoon oregano (optional)
Method
Toast two slices of bread on your frying pan over medium-low heat with butter on one side and the buttered side down. On the unbuttered side of the bread, combine the sweet corn kernels with your cheese slices or shredded cheddar and mozzarella.
Place the two bread slices together once the underside of the bread has been lightly browned. Flip the bread slices as they are being sandwiched together to brown the outer layer, cook the sweet corn kernels, and evenly melt the cheese. Remove the sandwich from the pan when the bread is brown on both sides and the cheese inside has completely melted.
BLT Grilled Cheese
Ingredients
2 large bread slices
1 tbsp. butter
3 slices of bacon
3 slices cheddar cheese
2 big cut tomato slices
A handful of green leaf lettuce
Method
Crisp the bacon by frying it over medium-high heat. After that, use a paper towel to wipe the pan clean of any excess grease. Decrease the fire to medium intensity. To toast two slices of bread, butter one side and place the buttered side down.
Place two slices of cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, and cooked bacon on one of the bread slices. Cover the sandwich with the remaining piece of bread and top with the remaining slice of cheese. Cook, covered until browned. Cook the other side until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted. Cut it askew and revel in the sublime cross segment.
