'Grey's Anatomy' Season 17 Episode 17: Can Hayes compete with 'dream' Derek to win over Meredith?
If anyone could do with a little light-hearted romance, it's Dr Meredith Grey after her recent battle with Covid. Fans are hoping that after the emotional upheaval Meredith has been through of late, her heart gets some healing. If not from McDreamy Dr Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey), then maybe at least from McWidow Dr Cormac Hayes (Richard Flood).
Dr Hayes and Dr Grey had a mild flirtation going on before Meredith fell ill with Covid. In fact, it was Dr Hayes who picked up Meredith when she collapsed in the parking lot. But there has been plenty of water under the bridge since then, including what seemed to be some slow brewing chemistry between Dr Hayes and Dr Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington).

But with Meredith now back at work, will she also get time to work on some romance as well. Fans are delighted to see that Hayes and Grey's dry sense of humor is intact, as he tells Meredith 'I'm glad you didn't die, Grey', to which she responds with a wry smile, "Me Too'. Some fans were even getting a bit of Derek de javu from this exchange. One fan on YouTube said, "That "I'm glad you didn't die, Grey" reminds me waaay too much of Derek's "I'm glad you didn't die today" to Meredith after the bomb episode, and I don't know how to feel about it. T-T"
Another fan on YouTube says Hayes' presence on the show is not making her miss Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh) too much, considering Hayes was Christina's 'gift' to Meredith. , "Hayes is making me not miss Christina too much. I need more scenes with Hayes and mer. Mer deserves some peace after all the tussle she’s been through," said the fan.
